this may take a while to explain:
You can enter as yourself, Shadow, and be a trainee. Depending on whether William is playing himself yet or not, him or Riddler may assign you a partner(But you can still be a trainee if they don't.) :3 So, you can be a trainee no matter what, but (like me....xD) May not get a mentor until someone picks you up as an apprentice. xD

Well, you can still roleplay without a mentor, but you won't get training from a mentor that's yours only. Like many of the trainees, you get trained by everyone, I guess, and pick stuff up as you go.
