Anyone know what I can do? I am really badly allergiced to my rats! ;,( The allergy upsets my astma and i can't breathe well. :( i already have my rats housed on plain paper and have my bedroom window open overnight but it has little affect. Mum saod my rats will have to be rehomed if it doesn't improve ;,,(

Maybe just keep them in another room? I think they have certain types of litter that help too, You would have to look into it though.

Saddly I am unable to keepthem in anpther room because my mum does't like the smell :( also i have tried alot of stuff like natural wood based cat litter, shreddes towl paper, shredded paper and now plain paper sheets.

I just bathed them and cleaned all the bars, hopfully it will work. :)

Luckily., one thing i like about the uk is that no invertibrate is allowed to be fed alive to other animals and they must be humanely killed however saddly that is normaly asnap of the neck and yesterday i was at college watching snake feeding and they were being fed mice, it was horroble the way they were killed but it was the cheapest and kindest way ;( they only fed one rat to an animal but i felt really bad for him. But i found out that thd college will sale rats so i plan to buy some and rescue them from being eaten.

I'm in the UK and although nowhere can sell "live food" it isn't as simple as it being illegal If people were breeding there own rats and using them as live food I don't think that is actually illegal sadly. :'(

I know breeding them and killing them yourself if legal however the kill methods are rather limited. I don't like that inbreeding is allowed though :( thats wrong also. I think it shouldn't be allowed to breed animal food or at least should have a licence as it is technicaly farming and the animals should have a happy and good life before being killed.

Get at least two, rats live in groups and generally does not like being alone

I think I've said this before but I'll say it again, I wish I could rescue a couple of feeder rats from ending up as snake food ):

My brother wants to get a pet snake, so he'll have to feed it mice or rats. I'm not looking forward to that, if that snake gets anywhere near Jake's cage, I'm gonna have to use karate -.-

Ohhh....solutions! Tell your brother to get an egg eating snake! There so call and are basicaly vegetarian snakes! :D We got one at college, i love him, I wanted one but mum said no because of the salmonela risk :/

He's already chosen the breed, he wants to get a ball python D: I'll try and convince him though :3

Anyway, I might be buying a second rat cage this weekend, so I'll be able to introduce a new rat to Jake and then I'll have an extra cage ^^.
