@tauriel. - thanks! it actually took me a long time to find a suitable picture for them haha
@dinolil1 - i think having everyone's birthdays where everyone can see them would be a little too personal? but i do like the idea!

Might it be better to have a sort of period that they're in? The rules say we're not meant to share birth-date anyway, so it might be best from that perspective too. Something along the lines of "first half of X", "second half of X", so that the mod knows that any time during that period is fine.
So, for instance, if HypotheticalUser's birthday is on the 19th October, then it's in the second half of October, so any time between the 15th October and 1st November counts as when their birthday is. There's probably going to be a post in that time, and if not, oh well, they get the cat in the first half of November instead.
I mean, alternatively we could use star-signs for groupings, as they're already a set of stamps that can be signatures, so we wouldn't be giving out any info CS doesn't sort of encourage, but then you get people like me who hold we should use the modern zodiac, not the ancient zodiac, which puts us in different star-signs (which for me is honestly a ton more accurate if you put any weight into star-signs at all), and really, it's a ton of hassle to have to work out which to follow for most people. But the modern ones are more logical (why are we living 2,000+ years in the past when zodiacs supposedly predict the future?) and who doesn't want Ophiotaurus to be a zodiac sign?
There's also the issue of when you go between zodiacs, because if you're willing to hold with the calendar system of some blokes who had no concept of zero, and therefore no concept of midnight, you've got to start counting your days from dawn, but a lot of people won't notice that and will be in the wrong star-sign.
Date ranges seems easier.

since we are talking about birthdays, maybe we should go with the birthstones that represent each month? those are stamps that you can put in your siggy as well as star-signs. and i personally put no faith in star-signs, ancient or modern, and it upsets me that people think we need to change something that was based off of an umoving thing to begin with, but that is another rant for another time.
i think we should go with just basic months, people can give their month/birthstone and when that month comes along the mod for that person can chose to give then a requested cat or not.
