When you see a character that you know is similar to one of your own, how do you respond? Are you flattered they liked yours so much or angry that it's basically a knockoff of your own?

{- it really makes me mad, like thats on of the main reasons why non of my characters have mates. because mates lead to breedings and breedings lead to designs similar to my charrie. Like im scared that the designer is going to make the pup look too similar to my own charrie and there fore making my charrie not special anymore -}

I have neeeeeever liked copiers.
If I see a similar concept on someone else's chars, it ticks me off to no end because I'm oddly possessive like that.
I've always been told by everyone I know that I should take copiers as a compliment, but I never really get over having my chars copied. :u
So while I'm fuming from my position behind this screen, I keep my mouth shut and let it go.
Though if I saw one that I was for sure is a 100% copy, I'd immediately PM them. :0

It depends on the design, and who the original artist for /my/ character was. :3 If it were, say, me who made it, and it were a complex design, I'd of course be rather confused, if not a tad livid. If it's incredibly simple, say, one flat colour, then I'd understand and simply let it go.
But, as noted before, if it were a particular design a newcomer who happened to glance at both, and asked if they were the same character, then I'd probably ask them about it. However, I'm not one to get upset to the point of when it was made, but rather I'd simply change my own character, or if I know said person enough then they could be family. Basically, find the best way to transform either character into being a copy into making sense. :3 Aaah. Or if I didn't know them I'd get angry and flip out on them. But probably just kindly ask them about it. And if they reply with something along the lines of "You copied," then I'd flip out.

This has actually happened to me a few times.
The first time I had spent good time compiling my likes and perfecting the design until I was satisfied. The second time I had spent a Grinner on the charrie, winning it in an auction.
I got mad, like, really mad.
Why should I have to spend all that time and my good pets on characters I really love, when someone is just going to turn around and take my hard work?
Needless to say, I reported both instances and have been living stolen-character-free ever since :3

Haven't seen this happen in art per say but it happened in character background and personality once and I was a very unhappy camper.
Art wise I saw one person trying to order art of a wolf design they found online in an anthro from so it "could be their character" I stepped in saying that you are copying a design there for its art theft. If you want something like that you need to make it original

Alright, before I go do some commissions, which are long overdue, I've been thinking about making a successful species. Usually I just didn't have the time nor the energy to commit to a species of my own, funnily enough I could do this for others' species, but never my own. Henceforth, I am thinking about making my own species. It will most likely not be oekaki based, and may not have an official thread till I get interest here on it... However, I still have no clue what to make the actual species yet. So, I have a few questions to help me with it ;D

I like something that's a little unique, so probably hybrid?

I personally like to see horns and unique hair styles.

Default accessories are great if they correspond with the species, like how kiamaras have to have feathers. Adding later is good too!

I think edits on a base line art are good.

A mixture based on effort is good, imo.

Keep getting stuck on my commissions which is insanely annoying, so I've been doodling horses the past couple of days just to make sure I don't come to a stand still.

This one of moon dance is like a pixel hybrid because I used brushes for a couple parts.
