You've probably heard of all or most of these, but I can give you some fantasy/sci-fi recommendations: The Golden Compass, The Mortal Instruments, A Great and Terrible Beauty, The Warrior Heir (trilogy), The Roar, The Sight, To Say Nothing of the Dog (really good sic-fi time travel book), Merlin's Harp (fantasy book set in King Arthur's time), The Chronicles of Prydain, and Howl's Moving Castle. That's kind of a lot, now that I look at it. I hope you have fun in Peru, that sounds really cool!

{ Haha, thanks <3

I'll have to check out that Dog one, and reread the Roar! It's one of my favorites but I'd forgotten all about it. And I have to read Merlin's Harp too, one of my friends recommended it to me. If it pops up twice it must be good c:

@SejiYume Robin McKinley has taken my favorite of the most well known fairy-tales and done wonderful things with them in Beauty and in Rose Daughter. As a kid, my problems with Grimm's and other well known fairy-tales were their brevity and the impersonality of them. Perhaps this is why fairy-tales retold are so popular? Returning to McKinley's works, she wrote a book called Pegasus, which I also suggest. She's written a good deal more, but those are my top three.

@SejiYume

Thank yoouu : )

You read Mortal Instruments? I really want to read those, but only the first two or so are translated into norwegian (and not even available in pocket). So I might wait, or maybe read the whole series in english.

I understand you when you say you're worried about the Mortal Instuments movie. Movies-from-books haven't done so good, huh?
But Twilight (sorry for this example), Hunger games and Harry Potter did good. I hope Septimus Heap, Maximum Ride, Mortal Instruments and the other movie-from-book movies will do good. But I've lost hope in MR, seems like nothing's gonna happen.
And yeah, Eragon and Percy Jackson are great examples of fails >.<

I've heard about Matched. Something about a perfect world in the future, right? And it's a love-story, right?
Ok, I found out it's in norwegian. But the third book isn't released yet, not even in english : ( Oh, and I love the artwork of the cover! Beautiful *o*
I read Disney bought the rights to make the movie. It better be good.

@Oakstar47

Hmm... Think we did once, but none of the books I found looked interesting. Just some novels I never heard of, children's books and old history books about Norway : / Boooring. But you were obviously luckier than me.

They're epic, you should read them. c: Well, I mainly agree, those examples were pretty good as movies.

I'll get to read them as soon as possible, but I have a giant to-read-list. I also ordered the first three books in Maximum Ride, but they haven't arrived yet. /sadface :c

I'm going to Peru over spring break (yay!) and it's over a fifteen hour flight (aww). I must have book recommendations! Does anyone have any good fantasy/sci-fi books up their sleeves? I've read many of the ones that made it to the NY Times list, but I'm also searching for some relatively obscure books I can read, love, and make roleplays out of. Hehe.

Have you read enders game. its more sci-fi and takes a bit of getting into, but its very very good!

How does one simply find a GOGH book which isn't that movie-branded version of The Capture. >_<

Has anyone ever read a book series in the wrong order? *Raises hand for Animorphs and Seekers*

{ I, for one, barely ever read things in the wrong order c: The Chronicles of Narnia being an exception, of course.

So do you gs have a go-to book? One that you always reccommend to people when they ask, or that you just read over and over? Mine would have to be The Roar, Candy Shop War, and Graceling :3

Oh, I know it's so annoying. I don't like movie covers, the actors rarely look like the characters :P

Hmm...I think some of the Lemony Snicket ones. And I almost read a different series out of order because the books weren't numbered. Then I realized I had no idea what was going on xD
