Right, you're rehoming at 5 weeks? 5 weeks is far too young.
You have to split the boys at 5 weeks before they are able to breed, but you can't let them go at that age.
8 weeks is a much better age and you would be better finding a better place to advertise.
I am sorry if I sound harsh, but I'm really angry at people who do things like this.
They are NOT Christmas pets for children and they should NOT be sold for £/$7, possibly alone.

In Sweden it is perfectly acceptable to rehome rats at 5 weeks old. Most breeders split the genders at 4½-5 weeks and rehome their babies at 5 weeks, maybe a bit later if they are very small. Breeders in general will not rehome a rat until it is 5 weeks old and weighs at least 90 grams (of course, most babies weigh more than that when they are 5 weeks). There are a few breeders who waits until the rats are 6 weeks old, but I have never heard of anyone keeping them until 8 weeks of age before rehoming. Is there a reason why you should wait until they are 8 weeks old?

I sell my babies at 5 weeks and they have all been fine. I have never had any problem Re-Home or any health issues... I dont see the problem at 5 weeks as long as they weigh at least 90 grams(As was mentioned above). I have bred about 9 litters and all go at that age so i would go getting snapping if there is nothing wrong with it.

At 5 weeks old, there's no reason why girls can't still be with mum.
They might not be feeding from her but at 5 weeks they are still very young babies. It also gives mum time for her milk to dry up properly, some mums find it harder to see their babies go so rather than taking all the babies at one time, I'd rather the boys went, then the girls. Although we have always kept all of the babies, so mum is sometimes kept with the girls their whole lives anyway.

Rehoming them at 8 weeks gives you more time to socialise them, health check them, generally get to know their tempermants better.

EmoWolf, didn't you say you had 4 rats... how have you had 9 litters?

I own 7 rats at the moment... Had several litters in the past. got 3 litters right now. One is about 4 weeks and the other two are about 2 1/2

So you can say that i am only breeding more rats to find left and abused? I breed cause I am a rat fanatic... I have always found homes for my rats that are not being used as snake food and i keep most of them myself. My father use to breed when i was young so i have always been a lover of rats and my family loves them too.

Yeah... You should meet my Zurri... This rat is indestructable... He gets out of his cage and goes and plays with the two large dogs i have.
