@ It's Still 2005 To Me - I LIVED in Hot Topic from the time I was 14-17. I still buy their stuff from time to time, usually just band shirts, but they've gotten kind of pricey so I usually go elsewhere now. The big trend here is "urban fashion" I guess you would say, stuff to do with hip-hop/ghetto culture, so I have to travel for most of my clothes because I refuse to give up my goth kid ways. I don't even think there is a Hot Topic around here for about 40 or so miles so I just order stuff from their site.

I was actually browsing MCR shirts online the other day because all of mine are wore out beyond the point of wearing.

I pretty much dress like a Barbie tbh. Even with band shirts. I won't buy a band shirt unless it is cute and pastel. There is nothing wrong with dressing like a Barbie or a jock.

I used to shop at Hot Topic in seventh grade. If it wasn't from Hot Topic, I wouldn't buy it. Those were embarrassing times.

It's actually funny to me how mainstream and trendy Hot Topic has become. They used to be pretty counterculture/underground when I was a kid but now it's all just pop culture and your run of the mill emo and scenekid attire, all super on-trend. The last time I actually went in one they had more shirts of musicians like One Direction and Justin Bieber than rock or alternative groups. I haven't seen a MCR shirt in Hot Topic in YEARS.

And I paid $18 for a bottle of hair dye at their store that I could usually get at Sally's for $10.

@ ~ Jaded No, there's nothing wrong with dressing like that if that's how you want to. I'm just bothered by the fact that everyone in my area looks the same just for the sake of looking the same.

@ the fragile Hot Topic definitely has a lot of pop culture stuff, but I find a ton of MCR merch and other cool things at the one closest to me. I guess it just varies from place to place? It seriously does overprice everything though.

Yeah, I'm not 100% if it's that Hot Topic has changed or that my taste has changed; I used to love their stuff, now I almost never buy anything there. Also at the one closest to me all you ever see shopping there is stuck up scenesters and the occasional hipster or two. They're like the Urban Outfitters of punk/emo culture.

I definitely have noticed a shift in their band merch though. I can never find band shirts I like in the one in my area. It may just be that location though - I used to go to the one in Greenville, SC and had lots of cool stuff and the employees were all really nice.

hA me too jaded, me too
not that I don't wear band shirts now (and god knows I throw on an old mcr shirt when I'm too lazy to get dressed nicely in the morning) but I don't usually buy stuff from hot topic anymore. mostly I spend my money on bands and musicians that actually need it. I've heard they have a solid vinyl collection, tho.

speaking of vinyls did any of u guys buy/plan to buy the rereleased ones. I lowkey wanted the DD vinyl pack thing but I'm also cheap   sooooooo

I've never been particularly impressed with Hot Topic's vinyl collection. It's mostly just really popular/mainstream stuff, just like their CDs. And it's also super overpriced compared to Best Buy or Amazon or something.

I actually don't have any MCR vinyl in my collection, which is a shame. I honestly hardly ever buy newer (I mean post-1980) music on vinyl unless it's something Trent Reznor releases, hah. But I have always wanted Three Cheers on a record.
