I need some critique for a random piece I made- right now I am a "ametur" at pixel art- I can shade and all that but I am still insecure-
this is a piece inspired by "five nights at freddys" with the signature bird - .^^
and I know I probably made it way too fast- but I wanted it to have a look like- in and out- of like a horror movie thing ;- ;

You might want to read the rules on the front page before posting art. c: You need to comment on any art posted 10 posts before yours. c:

Looks fancy! c: I'd suggest adding more black frames into the at the beginning, so it appears like nothings there, and then BAM! it pops up. c:

This is what they mean-
* When posting your own art, you mustn't forget about other people's art! Everyone deserves the same amount of feedback. If there is a drawing within 10 posts of your own then you must give the artist feedback before posting your own art. Not all feedback needs to be critique, you may just as well post something nice about the artwork!

As said on the rules on the front page of this post c:

I took a closer look at your pixel kitty, which is very lovely. I noticed is that your outline varies in width, and I wasn't sure if that was intentional or not. You've also got a sharp corner on its left hind leg and the top of its left ear seems to be missing a section of outline. Other than that it looks amazing, the anatomy is great and the shading is very well done.

To be honest, I was too lazy to fix it. d: Is it a really important part of pixel art, having the same width? And actually the left ear is supposed to be a bit droopy, but I see what you mean! It certainly looks like she's missing a piece of her ear. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! <3

I think it depends on who you ask and how strictly you want to adhere to the "rules" of pixel art. You can take a look at this tutorial from Pixel Joint. I'm not a member, but they explain pixel art very well and have tons of helpful tutorials.

Ah, those are really helpful! Thank you, I'll be reading through them as much as I possibly can! ^^

@Catastrophic Blend; I'm not very good with architecture myself, but the basics would be to lay down a perspective grid first. it helps a lot if you know where the vanishing point is, decide if you want 1-point/2-point/or 3-point perspective, and can have a solid foundation to build all the fancy details on. so, always draw the horizon line and decide on the vanishing point(s) first! that would be the best, though I don't really follow my own advice. *sweat*

@Friskusis; I love pixel art, and yours is lovely! if you want to go further, can definitely really zoom in there and clean it up, though it'd be really time-consuming. your biped drawings are very lively, I like the expressions and poses. on the bust, I do love the way you've colored it, but for shading watch out on things like the ears, if you shade it flat it will look flat (and ears have curves!). try to imagine the form of it and shade around it. if you can't imagine it, find references!

@bramble- claw; my critique would be to make the shading you have a darker color. right now it's hard to notice! I like the rec you have in the corner blinking, nice touch.

    uh uh.. hello everyone.

    just putting a small mark ere'.. and sorta joining.. splendid ;D;
    i'm a nub in art //pixel*cough*// and so uh.. - puts a sign above head saying art nub -
    but i would like to give sketchi some credit on that art ;D; along with bramble-claw.

    sketchi ;; - throws note pad away and snatches art up - mine now. ahaha- nah. but it is beautiful friend ! loving the way of how the mane around the neck looks extra fluffy... like a pillow.... and also. shading. i'm not even close to being good at shading but that is wonderful- i could practically see this character of your's through my own eyes.

    bramble-claw ;; i'm going with what sketchi said- darker your shading up a pinch. but it's quite neat and if you were ever at all to re-do that animation then why not try he's/she's far away and slowly moving closer ? maybe adding a bit more suspense to it. but other then that i have a fond liking over it.. although i'm too chicken to play the game.. its to scary xD ( hehe.. i'm dying over that rec in your picture also ;D; )

    but uh.. here's my art. its a try-out art for a foxerfly contest.. 'bit sloppy but behind the foxerfly is a rock plush and she/he has there tongue hanging out.. its not that i'm asking if the art is good but my style is very unrealistic and more cartoony but i want to know- is my shading good or is it just... bad ?

@sketchi, love the name! 'v ' I love the pose you picked, lots of different angles to work with, but you still kept it very balanced.

@the awkward one. You will want to define the shading more, you should be able to see the shading, it's not very visible at the moment. It also seems very higgildy piggildy, I don't know which way the light source is coming from? To better visualize where the shadows should be, draw a sun or a lightbulb somewhere on the page, that is now your light source! Draw where you think the light will hit and where it will cast shadows. These spots are now your highlight and lowlight spots and can be shaded! 'v '

this is my latest piece

I still don't have a shading technique I stick too/am comfortable with, so this time I experimented with a very dramatic painted look.
This is actually one of the first serious attempts at drawing a cat, as I am pretty terrible at drawing them. I've attempted it a lot, but this is the first time I truly felt like I succeeded 'v '

@the awkward one; that is a cute dober-fairy-pup! xD I can't tell what the black lump to the left of him is, though. is it his hind leg? or some sack? is he santa's helper? >o> also your shading, as stated above, is inconsistent and hardly visible, but shading is hard stuff!! takes a lot of visualization and trial/error. be brave! just slap the shade on and erase and slap more, it will get better. took me a really long time to become confident with my shading, I also used to put really light barely-there shading. xD

@Clowesia; wow, I love the colors you picked! it's a nice eerie-yet-clean palette. works well with the coloring technique too, I especially enjoy the ear fluffies. (also I like the sailor moon-esque shark in your sig; what is that based on?? what's going on? I'm curious. x)
