Okay rachelandrats, but I'm serious you really need to shut your mouth and read the comments as if you were the other person. Actually if I were milliemouse or Veri, I would be quite offended. Just because you believe no thing doesn't make it true. Jeez.

Because I believe no thing? Sorry what do you mean?
And I'm sorry if I offend people, but I don't take back saying what I did..... the sad reality is rats are very sick animals. If you look on rat forums and go to their health sections, they are full of posts. Ear infections, respiratorys, tumours, etc. I know milliemouse loves her rats - it's obvious, but her mum didn't let her take them to the vets. How is that fair for the rats?

This comment is rude itself, actually - you hardly need to tell anyone to "shut your mouth" :T
Rachaelandrats is looking from the pov of the rat, I believe.. Imagine being unable to care for yourself and get medication when you're ill, and the one supposed to look after you does nothing? ._.''

My new babies are so adorable, asfgh. My first time having rex's, and their whiskers are just so lovely and comical and <3

There's a rat show near here on the 1st October, and my Dad said he'd take me :D Can't wait to meet all those ratties.
Milliemouse, you could try going to a rat show or something? That way, you get to cuddle with rats, without having to buy any more :)
Personally, I've never been to one before, but it is being hosted by the Midlands Rat Club, so I think it will be pretty good :B And apparently there's a "cuddle corner".. C:

Hi guys, still on my quest to convince my parents to allow me to get rats, it's not going to happen soon though, unfortunately but I'm preparing for when I can.
I was wanting more opinions if I could use some wire mesh and a John Hopewell level/shelve to convert this dog cage into a rat cage?

If a rat gets a health problem giving them vegetables and a clean cage won't help it. If we got a respiratory infection, would the doctor just say oh it's fine, keep your house clean and eat vegetables?

Dude, I didn't say the sick problem solution with rats is a clean cage and veggies, sorry if it sounded like that. Preventing a sickness from coming is keeping the rat healthy. (Obviously) The tumor my rat had couldn't be helped. It cost a flippin 200 bucks for the removal. So I kept her comfortable, and guess what? She lived a happy and full rattie life.
And if rats get sick so easily, why are they pets? Why get a rat in the first place if all their going to do is get sick every month? There has to be at least one family, with one rat that got sick, and one successful life without one visit to the freakin vet.

You don't have to be always looking at the negative side of owning a rat.
sam sam did point out the truth of the matter, I getting very offensive over this discussion and still am.

I'm not trying to pin you as the bad guy here, and I really don't know why I still have to be posting. But whatever, end it. I don't care.

I'd love to go to a rat show, but unfortunately, I don't think there are any around me.

Veri okay sorry if I read your post wrong. But even the best rat owners can't prevent health problems.
Your lucky that your girl lived out her life with no problems, but didn't you say she was 2 years when she got the tumour? I would have most likely done the same thing, left her and seen how it grew. If it didn't and she was happy, I wouldn't have put her through an operation at that age either.

I didn't say rats get sick every month and die. However it's unlikely your rattie is going to live their life and never have any health problems or need to see a vet.

And sorry if I sound negative about rats... obviously I'm not or I wouldn't have them at all. I love rats, more than any other animal, and I love how much they respond to you and give back to you compared to other animals.
