dragging up this thread to ask something, for those who are up to date on warriors.
what do you think of the retcon in redtails debt? i haven’t read it yet, but the retcon makes no sense to me. if you’re gonna mention what it is and the specifics use the spoilers guidelines for people who don’t want to know c:

I'm annoyed (very, actually, Redtail is my favourite character) but not surprised. I won't be shocked if it turns out this was just another forgetful mistake that only would have taken one Google search to look up, but as usual, everyone else cares more about the series than the Erins themselves, lol. I can't think of a reason why it would have been a deliberate change.

I dunno my friend, Fernsong is a tom, says so on the Wiki and in the books and everywhere. Maybe it was a slip up on someone's part?

No, he is a tom, a lot of people have been headcanoning that he's a lesbian who uses he/him pronouns is all. They aren't gay in canon or anything. <:

im somewhat of the same opinion - but i feel like the scene they changed was too big of a part in the first three books to be swept under the rug like that, or outright forgotten. all i know is that it’s a thing, not whether it was genuinely deliberate change or for what reason it serves, but it just kind of ... defeats the whole purpose of a bunch of scenes in the prophecies begin, so ??? god, i don’t even know. but it really ticked me off, too.

I just got around to reading it and oh boy did that really get me peeved. Yes it does make the entire plot of the prophecies begin fall apart. The entire story is set off and driven by the whole who murdered who situation with Tigerclaw, Redtail, and Oakheart. On top of that Ravenpaw was so OOC that he was a completely different cat. He wasn't his timid, shy self who ran in horror when he saw what Tigerclaw did. They just wrote him off as a mini Tigerclaw like they do with every cat now??? Seriously there's an overabundance of Tigerclaw/star clones at this point. Anyways, back to Redtail. The novella itself was alright, it's just that ending. It would have been much better if they fixed it. What they should've done is 1) Written Ravenpaw differently, or replaced him with a different cat if not taken out all together 2) Have had Redtail kill any other Riverclan warrior- they could have picked any RiverClan cat that is not that pivotal to the rest of the story that at this point has to take place

ohh boy. the thing about ravenpaw just makes it even worse. i guess it’s not entirely the same people writing it and there are new people around too, but at the same time you would think they’d at least check to see if he was in character. but that also just really confuses and destroys the entire point of the first three books. so firestar was completely right about his assumption when bluestar didn’t quite believe it? so what was the point in asking all those cats in riverclan to confirm it ...? why would they lie? if he’d killed a riverclan warrior, they’d probably be all for revenge if it was a purposeful act. it was fine as it was, but honestly now i feel like reading those first three books again will have lost most of its meaning because they got the wrong conclusion anyway. :/
i was actually really looking forwards to reading redtail’s debt, redtails always been one character ive wanted to know more about. im still going to read it, but nonetheless, i don’t think ill enjoy it as much as i hoped i would considering that.

To be honest given what the newer team has already done to Spottedleaf and Thistleclaw's backstory, I've taken to not really considering them the same canon. The og series was fairly well encapsulated and these recent novellas about old timelines just read like poorly researched fanfiction, so that's all I'm gonna personally consider them LOL.
The rest of the novella is really quite good, if that makes you feel any better! In a very short space of time they really fleshed out a complete blank slate of a character. There are definitely scenes where Bluestar is made to look like a total idiot, and it seems to have been completely forgotten that Redtail actually.. had a family of his own?? But other than that it was, you know, a decent read.

i don't wanna interrupt your conversation about redtail's debt, but i just finished re-reading tallstar's revenge and i never really paid attention to it the first time i read it. the part at the moonstone after tallstar receives his nine lives and his father tells him about jake's kit (firestar). i loved their friendship so much and i just thought it would've been so nice to see tallstar's reaction when he first sees young firestar since he was told "you will know when you see him". this is just a random ramble but ahh yeah, i love tallstar x jake

I really liked Tallstar's Revenge too, which in a way surprised me because I've always related to WindClan the least out of all the Clans. Jake was my favorite part of it, too. <3 I really like when the Hunters write about way back in the day before "Rusty" ever ventured into the forest.

I just finished "Lost Stars." I'm.. not sure what to think. I am genuinely surprised. I have no idea what is going to happen in the next book.
