@vaiill; wow thats so good! But I would shade the knees in a bit. I think the legs and arms need to be a bit thicker tough.

@BlueWolf- (if you don't mind Shining Armor., I made a bit more accurate red/blue/purple/green/burgundy line)
Ah! That is gorgeous. I love draft horses and that one looks like it's standing strong and proud C: You are improving leaps and bounds (waaay faster than I ever did at equines. I was slooow going and still am) but there are some things you can improve on I think to get a more drafty look.
Image
I'll do this in parts based on what colors I used ouo

Blue- A simple blue box, just as a very rough and loose guideline. as I've said, horses are boxy more than anything. The box is sort of a frame just to help, it doesn't have to be followed precisely. Especially with drafts, who normally have thick muscles and extra fat (they aren't called heavy horses for nothin') that rounds them out a lot.

Red- Simple simple skeleton to follow. I basically just followed your structure already, because you've got the anatomy pretty good. It was more for me than anything to work on the next parts, so you can ignore it, except for your back legs- the joints are correct, but they are a bit long.

Green- Alright! Now we've got our body coming. I did this in parts- each closed off shaped circle things is how I did it, starting with the shoulder area. Draft shoulders are big and thick- powerful and strong- so I would round it out a lot more. Then the head and neck, which I would round out a bit more, the chubby draft belly, then the rounded, thick hindquarters/flanks.

Purple- The legs get their own color. When I do legs from the side, I normally split them in half- from the elbow to the first joint, then rope that off. Then the cannon bone to the fetlock, where you got the accurate draft-look with the sharp angles there. I didn't make the feathering, just sort of outlined it, so it could be longer if you wanted it to be. I make the back legs similarly, from the knee to the hock (the gaskin), then down the cannon to the fetlock and the rest of the leg. The knee should be at about the same level as the elbow, which the blue box helped me with. Really, your back legs were very well done already, just a bit long.

Burgundy- This was mostly for the face and muscles. A horse's face is made up of a lot of flat planes, which I outlined. I would move your eye up (like Shining Armor. said). The shoulders are a lot more muscle-y and round, and go very low, and also connects to a more defined chest.

I think that's it! Your shading was also very nice c: And your hindquarters were pretty much flawless!

Hey all,
Someone just gave me the link of this thread since I need some help with a dog lineart. So, you can consider me a new member ;)
I can draw dogs traditional, then scan it in and trace my own drawing to digital.
I tried doing it full digital this time. The result: I failed.
It looks like it is pooping my sig, since it's rear end is a little too high. I messed up his head, legs and the main body. To be honest, I think I messed every line I made xD
I got some advice to sketch with thinner lines. It worked and I managed to fix a horse, though it still needs a little more work.
My biggest problem at the moment is the dog.

Didn't use a reference, though maybe I should next time xD

Feel free to PM me or to redline it. And advice is more then welcome (and needed lol)

Heyo guys! I was a member of the community like, absolutely ages ago! Actually I believe that was almost 2 years ago! haha. So decided I'd find you again (which obviously wasn't too difficult ;P). But I have a question which im sure a lot of you have an answer too.

Do you know of any really good quality reference editables on oekaki?

I know of some, but im thinking that its time I have a look at some new ones! I've been searching but cannot seem to find ones that I haven't seen (and coloured abusingly multiple times). I could make my own, but the character I am planning on revamping is one of the most complex ones out there, and I honestly cannot be bothered with making lines and getting cranky because they don't look right ;P So yeah, thanks!

This is a very good start when drawing wolves or dogs! In my opinion, canines can be very difficult to reconstruct. My advice to you, would be to look up skeletal structures and videos of how a canine moves. When you know how a dogs skeleton and anatomy works, it makes it much, much easier to draw! Movement is also plays a large role. By watching how the animal moves, you can learn different positions, and restrictions of the animals body.
For example, if the dog is running and the legs are tucked up underneath its belly, its head will be held higher up than if the legs were extended in an elongated stride, which would shift the head into a longer, more stretched position.
There are so many little things to focus on you can't take it all in at once. Paws, legs, head, ears, teeth, tail etc. are all extremely important parts of the canine and should be drawn accurately as well as anatomically correct. This brings me back to the movement portion of references. Videos will assist largely when drawing these smaller parts correctly due to the fact that each different action they complete, they will be in a different position each time but still have the same anatomical appearance as before.
Finally, the muscular skeleton is just as important to focus on. By studying the muscles, you can accurately portray the position the animals muscles are able to preform. This will make it much easier to draw your characters.
My best piece of advice would have to be, practice, practice, practice! You'll never get better if you draw once and a while, you must drill home form with this. Also, draw the canines from many different angles so you can get used to the many different positions a canine can have.
I wish you the best of luck!

@toxiclama your animations are really good. Perhaps if you increase the framerate? 24 is normal, but I find it pretty fast. How about 12 frames per second?

Thats a good idea! It may be more difficult but I think it will be worth it c:

I've redlined him, but it's probably not that accurate, particularly in the rump area - this is just how I currently draw them. If you can find someone else to redo the rump, you might be a bit better off ^^; I scribbled an alternate rump above him, with an alternate tail shape.

Learning from other artists is good, but you also learn to pick up their mistakes if you're not careful (it's one of the reasons I draw back legs terribly; I really need to work on that). You are best to use some references in conjunction with this so you don't just pick up my mistakes (check the CS animal stock photo gallery for some nice ones).

You might like to make the legs thinner, but it depends on what kind of style you want. I shortened the body, and added more definition to the rump, but as I said before - you will want to look at reference pics to correct my mistakes before inking over my sketch.

^ I have been drawing hind legs the same way you have. I recommend looking up photos of canines and comparing the shapes of their hind legs to your art. Since I am still learning to draw canine hind legs properly, I will leave more detailed commenting to someone else ^^

I'm doing an art trade, and this is my sketch. I wanted to try an interesting pose.
I have been working on hind legs, but I am wondering if I have the proportions off? The front legs just seem rather long.

This is the charrie I am drawing: http://soteriascharacters.weebly.com/zinc.html

If anyone could give me help (comments or redline), that would be awesome <3
Thanks!
