I've got some questions on what's allowed for customs and I hope this is the right place to ask.

What about cats with vitiligo? I just discovered these tonight and got curious as to if they're allowed. It's a bit rare, but they look really cool and it doesn't affect the health of the cats. The reason I'm not sure is because it's a health condition, not a mutation, but also not disabling to the cat.

Also, for a custom I am actually planning to get, how much description is too much description? I've got such a clear image in my head of what this cat looks like, but I don't want to go totally overboard.

Vitiligo is not allowed, it is considered rare and artists can't make cats with vitiligo.

Hi, everyone!
I'm pretty new to Rise, and I haven't made a post here yet, so I figured it was about time. It's nice to meet you all! I'm Gleon, the puppet master behind Fractureclan. I'm currently only level one with a single cat, Larchstar. He's a cool dude.
At the moment, I've been entering a bunch of contests, hoping to grab another cat or two. After all, it's kind of tough to have a clan of one. ^^;
I'll get there eventually, though! I'm also considering just ordering a custom. For me, the benefit of a contest is that it usually forces me to consider unique elements of a potential character's identity. I like the creativity that comes from that.

Do you all prefer to order custom designs, or to win them in contests?

I'd love to know your opinions!

@gleon i prefer to win my cats just because i can’t really afford customs! i’d love to order a custom or two one day though if i can afford it. it is nice to know exactly what i’m getting with a competiton cat, but i’ve been far too busy recently to dedicate a lot of time to any complex competitions. larchstar is very handsome!

@gleon, I like doing both tbh. Its a lot of fun doing contests, the excitement of seeing that you won after working hard on your form. But customs are rly nice, especially if you have an idea for a cat and want them to have a specific look. And you know that you're going to get your custom. There's more chance you won't get a contest cat than that you will.

@Gleon I like both. I've been unsuccessful as of yet with winning a comp, but one day! In the mean time...I have a few ideas that are sort of specific coats so customs. I also don't connect easily to designs so I don't join a lot of comps haha

Also for anyone out there not on the Rise Discord yet, most of us hang out in there! It's a great place to chill with the community, share/trade art f your cats, set up rps and just, you know, be friendly XD

@Areater: Your reasons make a lot of sense. Contests are great for people who have more time than C$ especially, and it's nice to be able to see the completed design before you decide to commit. Also, Larchstar says, "Thanks"!

@TheSongOfTheStars: There's certainly a lot to love about both customs and contests. It's nice to have options in case one way works better than another.

@Tendency: I haven't won a competition yet either, but I'm sure both of us can do it if we keep trying! It is nice to be able to... well... customize! I'll play around with the discord this weekend and see how I like it. I'm not really super social, but I'm sure everyone over there is pretty nice. Might as well give it a try!

@RebelliousWinter: I'm not quite ready to find neighboring clans yet, because I'd like to flesh out Fractureclan's territory a bit more, but I'll keep you in mind in case you still need some neighbors once I'm ready for it.



Based on those who answered me already, it seems like customs and competitions are tied. They both have their strengths and weaknesses as methods for getting new cats, so I guess it just depends on the person and the situation. For me, I'll keep entering contests, but I broke down and ordered a custom as well. I went a direction that's a little unusual for me when designing Patchstream's biography, but I like where it's headed. I'm looking forward to fleshing their story out more as Fractureclan grows.



I'd like to keep up a tradition of asking a question to everyone with my posts, and this one is kind of practical for me right now.
What resource(s) do you use to create maps for your clans?
I've seen some pretty nice ones and I'd love to make something similar for Fractureclan.

@Gleon - I have a slight preference toward winning them. I really like developing the characters within their forms, and then being able to run wild if I win them. And it's nice to know how a cat will look before I start developing their personality. There is one specific character I'm going to get a custom of though, but I'm still pondering the exact color/pattern I want and I'm torn between two artists on which I want to do the custom.

I kind of want to know how everyone's making the maps too. Cascadeclan could really use an actual map of their territory, so I don't end up saying that the one twolegplace they're close is both east and west of their camp.

I know there's a site called inkarnate, but I beleive it requires you making an account and after that I don't know how it works.
I drew my own map from scratch using an art program and consequently it doesn't look too great, but I'm content with it.
