That's pretty good for your first try. Actual interest after five publishers? Not bad! Until your rejections number in the forties, you've got nothing worry about. ;) (Steven King's first novel was rejected thirty times. He threw it away after one too many rejection letters, and his wife fished it out of the trash and encouraged him to try again.) "He kept track of the rejection slips by sticking them on a nail, until he got so many he 'replaced the nail with a spike and kept on writing.' "

Good luck!

people who've read it: pm me and honestly tell me how sucky it is so I can judge if it's publishable or not

(Rowling was rejected 12 times. I bet those publishers are kicking themselves now. o.o One publisher said, of the Great Gatsby, "You'd have a decent book if you'd get rid of that Gatsby character.")

I dunno if it's publishable, mainly because it's pretty depressing. Would it sell? But seriously send it into a publisher; they're the best judge of that. It's beautifully written, complex characters, and not boring and cliche.

The quality is publishable, the plot and topic... maybe not, but only publishers can decide that.

New poem, but no critique please. It's kind of personal and the meaning isn't totally clear for a reason.

Well I never thought
That this day would come
The moment I lost
The moon and the sun

The warmth of his light
Faded to a burnt memory
All this time I waited
For love's symphony

Maybe now it's time
To give up on this
If love had a fine
This would be it

Anyway, like I said, it's kind of personal so please don't critique.

@Azsa: The plot doesn't suck, and I don't think that is what Arty was saying. The plot is really great but sad and a tad bit depressing (for me ono), too much so for some people. I figure a lot of people would prefer at least a bitter-sweet ending. But don't listen to me I know nothing. Px Hopefully you get it published! I would definitely buy it.

@Rose: Good luck! ^-^ I'm sure you'll get published. <3

Edit; It seems that while I may have lost muse for role playing, my motivation to write more chapters for my two books has skyrocketed. I guess that's not so terrible considering it's been a while since I last did so. ^-^

Hey, everyone! I'm doing a short story for my literature class, and I'm kind of on a deadline here.... Anyone have some vague plot ideas? It doesn't have to be a detailed plot description - just something to lead me in the right direction? I've been sort of blocked lately, and my ideas aren't flowing very well.
Edit: Already helped out by Infinate Stars - thank-you!

What type of story does it have to be? Fantasy, every day life, historical, etc...

The assignment was very vague, and my teacher said that it could literally be about anything. But for me, I think that writing short stories are easier if they are based in a world that is familiar to the reader. As it is called a short story, I don't think there should really be a complex world described, as it would be confusing and might seem a little jumbled. So I would prefer to use a normal world, or perhaps one similar to our own.

But either way, I already got some awesome ideas from Infinite stars, so I think I'm pretty much ready to go lock myself up and write for a few hours XD! Thanks anyway though, Electra!

I'm mad. Really mad. If Semi-lit RP club members get automatically accepted here, why shouldn't it be the other way around? I put in a form with one of my lazier posts, thinking that's how it worked. Nope, I was wrong.

Anyway, back on topic. What's a good amount to write each day? I normally set myself a certain time frame to write, as my muse is slowly returning. But I only get a page or two done in one hour.
Looking for all 2010 staff litter dogs. Will possibly overpay.

The Semi-lit club is run by different people than this club, and their standards are quite different. A variety of factors are taken into account, and the standards are stricter than this club. Sorry OrangeNeon. :( Maybe try reapplying later when you've got plenty of examples of high-literacy roleplay posts to show? :)

I tend to set myself on a schedule of about one to two hours every other day, on average. (As long as I write for at least half an hour once a week, I keep moving and want to write more.)

I think it's different for everyone though. Terry Pratchett and Jack London both had strict writing regimens. Terry Pratchett wrote a set amount of words each day, to the point that - when he finished one book - he put another sheet of paper into a typewriter and wrote another hundred words on a new book just to meet the quota. Jack London wrote every morning, I believe, with a set time period he'd spend on it.
