Do you all have a character with a horribly sad back story?
I do have some characters with a bad past, but only because it fits into the overal history of their species. Or because I felt it would add to the character. I actually feel pretty bad when I make my character go through a lot of troubling events. If I do make them go through bad things, I tend to do research on how they'd end up. For example; Draca had a pretty nasty past and ended up with post-traumatic stress disorder, but it doesn't control her life or is the main thing to her. Just something she has to live with and she handles it well. Anyway, a lot of my characters actually had a pretty good past, only with some misfortunes here and there, nothing too big.

Anywho, I made a new species called Budding Duckies. They are ducks with buds on their heads that can grow into trees, flowers, or bushes. Full grown ones will have the budded flower/the actual tree/branch/bush on their head. xP Eggs have no buds.

For those of you with a dA, if you want to use the lineart to make adoptables for profit or for free, it's five points for unlimited use. I have a version compatible for CS oekaki, and one compatible for GIMP/Photoshop/etc. If you want to create yourself a character of the species/draw your own custom work of the species whether or not you sell it on here/dA, you're welcome to do so for free. But please give me credit and blah blah blah. I think ya'll should have Budding Ducky chars, shouldn't you? 8D

Pretty much all of them personality wise, which is mostly obvious in their political/religious beliefs... I don't have much variety in that regard. None of them are very close to me in all aspects, just tiny little things.

Holden had a horribly written backstory originally, and even now that it's rewritten it was still a pretty rough childhood. He whines about it a lot.

Well, if they didn't, what was the point in having a story in the first place? The point of a story is to have a challenging topic/theme where someone overcomes a challange or learns something. So there isn't much of a all-happy story then, unless it's just a back story, but you would need to have some sort of issue in it, if you wanted it to be interesting.

I've never heard of that being the point of a story. I only know of a few stories like that, and you don't have to have some horribly angsty life story or a bad life at all to overcome challenges.

Ooh ooh yes yes! :D

I connect to Leslie and Darius a whole lot. I like to think of them as extensions of me, in a way.
Leslie acts quite a lot like I do when being childish, but just amplified.
And Darius sort of reflects on my more cynical/hate everything kinda side.
This is why I treasure them, because they're like me, in a way <3

Uh, quite a few of mine do actually. x3
Like, the one's I've adopted from adoption centres. I just feel that having my characters go through bad things as well as good things helps me flesh them out more.
