his character is pretty complex in that he has his own issues with himself and definitely took them out on deku growing up...and now that midoriya has a quirk powerful in itself he feels inferior to him??? I dunno tbh

This is exactly what I think is going on with him omg. I would also add that he’s used to being the strongest around but now at UA he’s surrounded by others with Quirks just as strong as his, not to mention formerly-quirkless Deku, so he’s feeling like he has to make up for that. He feels threatened by people like Todoroki.

Me and my friend really like Kacchan so we’ve spent a lot of time discussing this.

oh yeah definitely! he was top dog in middle school but now there's people with seemingly better skills that are there to challenge him. he /definitely feels threatened/. it hadn't crossed my mind till you mentioned it!
I remember him saying stuff about todoroki and how he felt like he couldn't beat him, and how he was frustrated with that. you can see his frustration too when deku gets better control of his quirk fairly quick, uses kacchan's moves in training, etc etc

I love bakugou too hngg...saddens my heart a lil when people rule his character out as just a bully. he is, but he's got a lot more going for him too.
he's such an interesting character to crack open and take a look inside tbh.

I'll add to the above ^^

When Bakugo was a kid, all the kids around him were fascinated by his quirk, because of how powerful it was. This made him think he was better than everyone, and how he turned out the way he did

Woah! That makes much more sense. I apologize if I hurt anyone’s feelings about this I just don’t really like characters who become so spoiled and bratty. I completely understand how he got that way now, and, from reading through everyone’s perspectives on the matter, I agree that he truly is a complex character. Seeing everyone around him suddenly become so much stronger than him (especially when one who he thought was a nobody) must be really jarring when he was praised so much before. I hope he becomes a kinder individual eventually. His quirk, strength of character, and determination are amazing, but his superiority complex and disrepectfulness is not cool. Hopefully the newest chapters in the manga will help him become a little more patient and accepting. Thank you for reading through this! I hope it made sense  And thank you all for being so polite. This is a really nice thread.

Just to add about how he got a change in peer views, he gets very bothered in the sports festival arc because Todoroki directly challenges Midoriya paying no attention to Bakugo's ability. To add to that Todoroki refuses to use his fire power for Bakugo after doing so with Midoriya. At this point he accepted that if Todoroki used both sides of his power he would have lost, but he would rather have lost to Todoroki using his full power than win without it. It hurts his pride that Todoroki doesn't see him as a worthy adversary, and honestly as a competitive athlete myself it certainly feels like a kick to the face to only win because someone went easy on you. It's better to lose knowing why and learn from it than to never be challenged at all. I think since Bakugo knows he is now dealing with people who are on par or even better than him and he wants to have challenges to overcome. He wants people to think he is worthy of being challenged.

@ MapleShells -

ah yes of course!! I don't think anyone was offended or upset...!!
he's an interesting guy haha

@ ThunderDragonDhurke -

!! oh yes definitely!! ee this was a nice read and a reminder about the sports festival, how could I forget?
he definitely doesn't see his sports festival win as a real 'win', mentioned several times by himself. it kind of saddened me seeing him being upset about that, because to him it must have felt humiliating to not be seen as a worthy opponent.

im not an athlete unlike yourself, but even in something simple like board games, if someone lets me win and I know about it it doesn't feel satisfying. or if I know they're going easy on me.

I also think at that point Todoroki was not prepared AT ALL to begin using his fire side, and it was more of a sudden burst of emotion from Midoriya's words that got him to use it in the round against him in the first place. hence, a reason he didn't want to use it against Bakugou or simply he didn't want to use it himself. it would surely have taken a large toll on himself

Most definitely, the trauma Todoroki went through is not something he will heal from overnight. That's probably why I like him so much as a character, he is very well written. Midoriya was that first push toward motivating him to focus on his dream again and reunite with his mother. It was a big push in that moment and he didn't have it in him to use the fire against Bakugo. Certainly Todoroki's intention was not to insult Bakugo, it was to spite his father's actions, but due to Bakugo's insecurity he took it that way.

Agreed lol I'll join in

I'm also really into bored games, and when I lose and figure out how they won, I learn something out of my failure, and how I can change the way I play so I won't make the mistake. I definitely think that losing teaches you more than winning.

I really loved Izuku's intention to help Todoroki in the Sports Fesitival, which lead to Todoroki using his fire side. Although I feel that it wasn't just Izuku who wanted to open Todorokis eyes, I felt that Bakugo did too. In a way, they both wanted to use his fire side, (and to show that it's his own power!) but Bakugo has his own way of showing it. (pretty pushy lol) Now I may be totally wrong about this, and Bakugo could've just wanted to fight his opponent at their strongest, but what leads me to think of this is because he heard the conversation between Izuku and Todoroki. That means he would've known about his relationship with his father, and why he doesn't use his left side.

I just felt that Bakugou knowing about Todoroki is really imporant, even recently fhe flashback of his eavesdropping on them appeared a couple chapters ago lol

@ ThudnerDragonDhurke
definitely definitely, a great input!

@plus ultra
yes, it's a great discussion! I'm liking it!

@Konade.

Izuku sacrificing his win to help Shouto definitely took me off guard (since I watched the anime before getting into the manga) and I was really expecting Midoriya to win but...glad he didn't. That fight was crucial to Shouto's development as a hero along with the previous events in the sports arcs (telling Midoriya about his past and so on)

I can see that!! Bakugou was pushy about it, I remember him saying something before the fight like: "Forget about that family crap!
Just give me all you got with you fire side!" something along the lines of that.
Yes, he wanted a fair fight. For Shouto to come at him with all he had.
But...now reading what you said, it seems he too wanted to push Shouto, which he wasn't able to do in the end.

and yea!! bakugou knowing about todoroki is really important especially from that recent flashback which I'm still tryna analyze exactly what that means...

I've got this theory. and it's a little sad maybe but
mitsuki is seen hitting katsuki a lot, usually in a playful way but still...it kinda seems violent and unecessary and they argue a lot,
so perhaps bakugou doesnt get along with his mother very well. or at all. we don't know much about his past life with his parents unlike shouto.
the violent way he was raised /could/ have had an effect on his behaviour, definitely. I'm going to do some more research into this,
but based on the pyschology I know...

I just found it odd that Bakugou remembered eavesdropping on todoroki when he said something like: "thats how I was raised" when regarding using violence as punishment.

I DONT KNOW!! thoughts? agree, disagree? am I looking too far into this?
