Belldandy: I use airbrush to colour, watercolour to shade. I tend to stick with those two tools for everything, though, I really need to explore the other tools, like acrylic.

Could I get advice on shading fur, especially on white? I painted over an old picture as practice, but it's looking pretty choppy, especially on the white, and the places with shorter fur like the legs and sides. I've only done this twice, but hopefully I can get it to look better.

I think the shading is a just a little harsh. You could try to lower the opacity or change the (I'm assuming you're using a multiply layer) to a lighter color. I tend to use blue or purple for white places because black looks too boring and it's not as pleasing to the eye.

I guess I would suggest using a variety of two or three colors to shade the fur, depending on the color of the base.

Thanks for the advice. It's hard to make different colours for shading, but I tend to overblend so it all ends up the same colour. I've been trying to stay away from the 'shade everything w/ purple on multiply' but it actually seems to work very well on white. I'll have to do some more fiddling with this, I guess, but at least it looks a lot better than what I've been doing.

The new SAI is amazing. The line art tool is so much better than using the layer that the old one had. <3;
