I find that partners who give me several paragraphs every single response usually only end up giving my character a question or two. The rest ends up being fluff.
I've read several 'literate' role plays where people post hundreds of words and they all absolutely bored me to tears. In an entire post the plot advances barely a fraction, the background is described in excruciating--to read--detail, and it's just boring. I could toss out 90% of their post and miss and regret absolutely nothing.
I think word length shouldn't be a challenge to see how much utterly useless fluff and extra crud you can come up with; if a post is 800 words and only 75 of those contribute to the purpose, what use are those 725 extra words? I cannot see how you can interact with another person and produce an inordinate amount of relevant text.
So far, I've not been proven wrong but a few times. Captain Kaycee is one of an extremely select group that I think can write 4-5 paragraphs, sometimes more, and keep my interest in them. Stuff happens in (her?) roleplays and posts.
That's just me.
