Have you got the original .PSD/.XCF/.SAI file? if so, then remove the bottom white layer (if there is one) and save it as a .PNG, that makes it transparent c:

And if you don't, (you need to be able to select specific colours with something like a magic wand tool) select the white background and hit delete then save it with the background squares showing, and that should make it transparent.
