Quick, guys, 1x1 idea incoming!
It's very, very loosely based off of Cinderella and Mulan, except "Cinderella" isn't really a commoner and "Mulan" hasn't dressed up as a boy to help her father and defend the country— rather the opposite, actually, because they're at the ball to get revenge. How, exactly? By killing the king and the prince, of course!! :O Also, they're sisters. I swear this will all make sense in the end hopefully.
Here's a quick charrie list before I begin:
"Cinderella"
"Mulan"
the prince
the captain of the guard
There are these two kingdoms, A and B, that have been at war with each other for years and years. Recently, Kingdom A has finally put an end to the fighting by succeeding in conquering B and making B part of its emerging empire. The people of B, if not killed or enslaved, have been demoted to peasants, laborers, and slaves. This is where our Cinderella and our Mulan come in. They are — or were — the two princesses of Kingdom B [C being a year older than M] and managed to avoid the attack on their palace by taking the underground escape routes to safety while their parents were killed. Except the tunnels didn't really lead them to safety because they were caught before they could flee the city. However, the attackers didn't recognize them as royalty since they'd dressed as servants before they left, so they were soon split up and put to work in different households.
C, being the more sensible of the pair, has been carrying out out the charade dutifully, careful not to raise suspicion from her new mistress [who shall be henceforth referred to as "the stepmom" for simplicity's sake] and her two bratty daughters. M, who's never been the ideal princess and makes even worse of a serving girl, quickly gets herself fired from the household that took her. Gladly embracing her new status as a nobody, she quickly learns her way around the streets, reveling in the sudden absence of others' expectations. However, her mind quickly turns to revenge and she makes contact with C, who's also been plotting against the king of A.
Through a series of secret meetings, they formulate a plan: M is to dress up as a boy and join the guard [the king of A has been allowing the conquered people of B to enlist, effectively discouraging thoughts of rebellions in those most likely to rebel, since the life of a soldier is good and they'll get to conquer some people themselves] while C is to infiltrate the castle by means of... *drum roll*... the masquerade that's being hosted to find a wife for the crown prince [she'll have to get her outfit from a "fairy godmother"... maybe a sympathetic older slave who was also from B and recognizes her as the princess?]. Since this will all have taken place within the timespan of about a year, M won't have had enough time to move up in the ranks, so she'll be assigned a lowly task of doing something like overseeing a hallway. This means that she'll have to dress up as a more important officer so she can sneak into the ballroom itself and meet up with C. C, who's pretending to be a noble anyway, will make excuses for M if "his" presence is questioned by saying that "he" is her personal guard. The aim is for the prince to be betrothed to a girl by the end of the night, so C's goal is to be that lucky girl. But they won't end up getting married, because C will kill the prince when she gets close enough and M will take care of the king with a throwing knife or something.
And that's where this story would end, if it were about two sisters on a suicidal mission to throw the kingdom into complete chaos.
EXCEPT.
M finds a sympathizer in the captain of the guard, who's the bastard son of the king [a.k.a. half-brother to the prince, though the prince doesn't know it] and plenty bitter about his origins. And when C gets a chance to talk to the prince at the ball, she finds a mind to match her own and a mutual dislike for the king. Suddenly, it might be possible to take him down. But C and M have greater plans than what the captain and the prince know and will go to any lengths to see them realized... even at the cost of their hearts.
That, my friends, is where this roleplay will truly begin.
On that dramatic note, let me provide you with an updated cast:
"Cinderella"
"Mulan"
the crown prince
the captain of the guard
the king
the "fairy godmother"
the "stepmom"
the "stepsisters"
^ That makes nine characters. We'd each take a girl [I'd prefer Cinderella, if that's okay :O] and a guy [so that would mean I'd get the captain] as well as two minor characters. So maybe we could each take one stepsister and decide between the king, the godmother, and the stepmom through PM?
Post length doesn't have to be huge; we're looking at two-three paragraphs for each major character and one-two for each minor one. Only two things matter to me here: that you're good with characterization [and, as a given, that the quality of your posts is high] and that you. don't. ditch. me. I WILL find someone else because this is an idea that I want to see through. Just a warning, in case you're the kind of person who'd get offended by that.
(p.s. if this hasn't piqued your interest, also check out this post in which i make a very excited 1x1 proposal that no one has taken me up on yet >.>)
