I walked through the snowy forest, admiring the beautiful sight of the snow on the bare branches of the trees, the animal prints, and the gentle snowflakes falling from above. And yet it wasn't so pretty. I was alone, in a cold forest, lost.
I had made it the night before by catching a small squirrel with my hands and being able to cook it over a small fire I had managed to start. This morning, I decided to use fresh snow as a water source, and I ended up eating some berries I had found.
And now, I'm here, standing on the top of a steep slope with a drop of about 13 feet. But I could see a thawed stream at the bottom. I could also see, in the distance, a hiker information cabin.
I was excited. I pulled my fur coat closer to me, took a deep breath, and jumped.
I felt my feet his solid ground, and I stumbled. After regaining my balance, I ran towards the stream.
I grinned and crouched down near the water. I leaned forward and took a sip of the fresh, cool, clean water. I sighed happily.
After I had drank to my heart's content, I started walking towards the information cabin. After awhile I started getting tired. “Come on,” I mumbled to myself.
Fifteen minutes later, I had finally made it to the information cabin. I sighed happily and walked inside.
“Hello, welcome to the Information booth. How may I help you today?”
I smiled at the lady, who smiled back. “Well, you see, I kind of got lost here,” I admitted. The lady looked up.
“Lost?” she questioned. I nodded. She walked around the desk to me and herded me to her truck, where we both got in, and she drove me home. To my wonderful, warm, cozy home.
Aww, so close to me! I had 314 words. Only 11 words difference!
