Omg! Yay! Thank you Birch!
XD This is my last Equid slot... I'm so excited! Crosses fingers for a stally to keep Oratunus company... c:
I wrote a story about my Equids last night. It was fun!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm too tired. Do we have to go today?"
Carivalle shifted under the shade of the tree and blinked across at Oratunus. The bright sun rays were drifting and then mingling with his bold lava patterned coat, making him almost blinding to look at.
"Yes we do Quies. Sorry hon, but it's best we move now when the weather is fine rather than trying to find somewhere when there is a storm." Carivalle watched the young cream filly as she sighed heavily and finally flopped down in the grass with the other three. She had been jittering around for the past half an hour, trying to persuade them that they shouldn't leave the dandelion-dotted meadow with its sweeping grass and stitching of trees at the edges, the wide scape of the hills and snow-capped mountains encasing them. "But why do we have to go at all?!" Quies frowned and gave such an adorable sorrowful look that Carivalle would have given in. Unfortunately for Quiescere, all the chocolate-coloured puppy eyes and endless chatter hadn't been able to change Oratunus's mind.
The stallion shook his crimson mane and half-closed his eyes.
"We have to go. New places are necessary. Besides, the seasons are changing and we don't want to get left behind. We will leave when the sun gets cooler today. At the moment, I feel as though I'm on fire."
"You look as though you're on fire!" The gingery paint mare splayed in the tall grass sat up and grinned as she retorted in her usual manner. Her sky blue eyes twinkled challengingly as she glanced casually into Orarunus's charcoal ones.
"So do you Vivi. Your coat's gone all firey and red. It's the way the light's bouncing off it, you know. There's this thing.. It's like... Mmm... I can't remember now." Quies smiled innocently and then suddenly was distracted by a small dandelion clock that swayed in front of her.
She went cross eyed and leaned closer so her nostrils were breathing air gently onto it, the little fairy-like seeds threatening to take off.
She looked so comical that Carivalle couldn't help but give a spluttering giggle. Luckily Quiescere didn't realise that she was the center of attention as Oratunus snorted and Vivi rolled her eyes, giving a small breath of laughter.
"I like the sun but... Really, this is too hot!" Carivalle watched the seeds from Quies's clock dive into the air and wander on the breeze away from the drooping tree's shady shadow.
"Who's too hot? Me? Thanks! It means a lot. I always knew I was the most stunning one." Vivi jibed.
Carivalle raised an eyebrow and Oratunus decided to join in.
"Actually, I think little Quiescere here is going to be the heart throb when she is older."
Vivianna gasped in mock horror and Quies glanced up.
"Huh?"
Carivalle tutted and looked meaningfully at the little filly with her faded sunlight coat and creamy face who blushed and mumbled 'sorry'.
"I mean... Pardon?" She quickly amended.
"I was saying... That when you grow up, all the young stallions will be head over heals to be your guy." Oratunus grinned lazily and flicked his ears at a blowfly.
"Oh. Not really. They would never understand me."
Quiescere's face cleared and she gave a small vacant smile, still watching the dandelion, to which a couple of seeds still clung.
Vivi groaned. "My dear, it's all about presenting yourself! Honestly! If you skip up to them and start going on about butterflies and rainbows, of course they won't understand. You need to-"
Carivalle glared at the flaxen-manned mare. "Quies, you don't have to worry about it yet. Just remember to be yourself around everyone. The right boy will love you, no matter what."
Vivi rolled her eyes again. "Worse piece of advise. Ever. I don't use it." She muttered under her breath and swished her tail through the grass.
Carivalle watched Quiescere roll to her side and stare up at the azure sky, shattered between the leafy branches.
"Yeah. Exactly Vivi. Look where your method got you." Orato couldn't resist.
Viviana's cheeks flared and she instantly spat back. "Shut it Mr. All high and Mighty. You better watch that tongue of yours cause I'll-"
Carivalle's whirled around and hissed, "Language Vivianna! And don't you provoke her Orato!"
"Don't call me that, midget!"
"Then please don't call me midget!"
"It is your name, Vivi. And don't call her midget."
"I hate Vivianna! It's too girly."
"We'll that's your problem!"
"Who cares whose problem it is! It's besides the point!"
"I think the point was for us to stop arguing."
"It's two against one. It's not even fair!"
"They sky really is the colour of the ocean today."
There was a short silence and they all turned to look at Quiescere.
"See, it's so blue. And so clear. No clouds today. So the sun doesn't have to worry about dodging between those grey splodges. That kind of rhymed. Well, not really. Isn't it called assonance?"
There was another short pause and then unexpectedly, Vivi lay down and stared up through the canopy of leaves with a defeated sigh. Carivalle watched Vivi's eyes flickering to the different patches of blue against the green. Then, she too rested her head against the ground and looked up at the shards of sky. It really was beautiful.
Oratunus smiled and then joined the others sky-watching.
After a couple of minutes of silence, Quiescere piped up.
"I'm not tired anymore. Can we go now?"
