Meiko sounds similar to Kaito because they were meant to be used together. It's a reason why they harmonize so well. They were also in development at the same time, but Kaito came out two years after Meiko rather than being released at the same time which was the original plan. The earliest Vocaloid demo was sung by Kaito and the earliest duet was sung by Kaito and Meiko. Both songs dating back to 2003.
