Prologue
In the days before humans, there were four tribes: the Shuma’s, the Wizards and Girl Wizards, and they used magic for good. The Shumo’s, the Warlocks, and they used magic for bad. In that day, there were wars. There were strict rules: NO interbreeding. And to this day, anybody who broke that rule went to the Magic prison. But, a male Shumo called Zim, and a female Shuma called Lithonia breeded illegally. After Lithonia had a child who “officially” belonged to the tribe of her mother, the two parents got threw into prison. The child, everybody knew she could use both Magic’s, so they tried to teach her the good only. The mother had a second child two years after her. This time, he was a male. The same principal of “good, not evil, nor both” tried to apply to him. Soon, after o two years time, she had a second daughter. The children, together the teachers tried to teach them, but they knew their history. It was in vain.
Eleven years later…
Kitiara, who’s now fifteen, Glance, who’s now thirteen, and Sessona, who’s eleven, have decided to rescue their parents and destroy a law that has been here before time. The good, but not bad, are trying to stop them…
Chapter 1
“Kit! It’s time to go to class!” Yelled Sessona up the stairs.
“Coming, Sona! Just got to do my hair!” I Replied calmly. I mumbled a word under my breath, and my knee-length of the darkest black imaginable hair brushed and braided itself. I looked at my clothes, a tunic and leggings, before being satisfied. I went downstairs where Sessona and Glance were waiting. We all slipped on supple boots, then left our rooms and headed down the hall for classes.
When we got to our classrooms, Glance, Sessona, and I hugged and wished each other luck in our lessons. Then each of us departed, each dreading the day where the teachers would insist on the benefits of good. I entered the classroom and sat at my chair. The Dreaded Drone (that’s what I called it) began.
“Being good is good. Good gives you power. If you are black, you have no good feelings…” I sighed and sat back. I was sick and tired of The Dreaded Drone.
I stared out of the window, thinking about the evil magic. Yes, it had done good things for me. For when Glige put a frog in my shoe, while I was looking away, I had my revenge: I made a fake candy box that had food poisoning in the candy. He spent the whole night throwing up. And when I had made the teacher disappear in a pit of her least favorite things for being to strict… I giggled evilly.
“…So that’s why good is good. And Kitiara, please don’t giggle.” Finished the teacher. I nodded just to make her be quiet.
“Finally!” I muttered. I went in the hall, and there were Glance and Sessona. “Come on. We’ve got more classes later, and we don’t want to miss snack.” Glance said, while I was nodding in agreement. We headed to the lunch/snack room, where our snacks were allowed. Everywhere else in the building food and drink (excepting water) was not allowed. We ate our snack, and then returned to classes.
A few hours later, when it was time to go to bed, we left the classrooms. I sighed, thinking about the day as I stared at the ceiling of Sessona’s and my room, next to Glance’s. I had a sudden thought: “What if we could rescue our REAL parents?” I thought about that for a moment, letting that sink in… “It would be cool… We could meet them… But we would have to destroy a law that has been here since the beginning of time.” It was that last thought that fully woke me up. I crept out of bed to get our book on laws. I looked at the cover of the book, unsure of what to do. I flipped to the part about the law about the marriages between the clans, reading it over and over again, not sure what I was supposed to find. I put my eyes suddenly on the reason: Half-Breeds are supposed to be bringers of peace, we can not afford that. Good must always win. I scoffed. “Yeah, right.”
I considered waking my brother and sister, to escape, but I decided with an evil grin to escape on Examination Day. Ha! That would tell the teachers. I returned to my bed, to think and think again.
The next day, I woke up tired but refreshed. I headed towards the food room, not wanting to wait for my sister and brother. I came to the room and saw Glance and Sessona waiting in the corner.
“Well?” I asked.
“We got up early, so we went to the lunch room to order food for all of us. Here’s your tray,” Glance said as he passed me my tray, loaded with maple syrup and French toast.
“Mhhhhhm.” I said as the delicious flavors hit my mouth. I looked at the wall, figuring out whether I should tell my brother and sister about my plan. I reached towards my beet juice, and Glance said
“I don’t know how you can stand that stuff.” He looked repulsively at my juice. I licked my lips, and said
“Sorry. Bad habit.” He sighed, and looked down at his food. I took a sip of my juice, and fell to the floor (that’s what they told me afterwards) and began to choke. Glance yelled
“Someone help! Help! Our sister is choking! Oh my god!” and was panicking. The last thing I felt was hands picking me up before I blacked out.
I reawaked a few days later, in the white imfermary. A lady came by and said
“It’s nice to see you awake again. Your siblings are dead worried.” I asked with a thick voice
“What happened?”
“It seems that you are allergic to grapes, and very heavily. Very , VERY heavily.”
