Eugh that’s the worst. For me it’s because some of my stims are loud/distracting. I’m really good at subconsciously masking in social situations so my stims become smaller, but occasionally I just can’t.
What’s the stims? If it’s cool to ask
picking at my scalp,,, its a bad habit and a nasty stim that i do when im stressed

I struggle with the same stim. I've never found anything that works for me in its stead, and it fluctuates good and bad. I feel like I've tried everything.

Have you ever found any workarounds?

nope, i've been looking too because i'm kinda tired of having so many scabs and raw spots on my head... ouchie. i've tried stim toys that you like, scratch at or ones that make clicking noises because it kinda gives the same sorta,,, sharp feeling? if that makes sense? but nothing feels the same and it Sucksit is nice to know i'm not the only one dealing with this, every other person i've brought it up to thought i was weird or gross

Just checking real quick, are you allowed if you're questioning if you're autistic? We completely understand if not, but wanted to check.
Neurodiversity is weird as a system and we don't have access to any good MH care, and although we've been questioning for a few years now and have talked to many, many autistic people, we're still not 100% sure.

Of course you're allowed here! Diagnosis is not accessible for a lot of people, so in my opinion it would be ableist to require dx to post here.
(Also we know your system from Twitter, hi!)

howdy hey, i found this thread just now and thought i might as well hop into the conversation if y'all don't mind ! :D
i'm currently diagnosed with Asperger's ( at least, that's what i've been told up untl this point ? idrk my current diagnosis suidjfhsujfs ), though after meeting my new therapist for the first few sessions, they seem to think that i might not be, which is hard for me to take in if that is the case ( it's kinda hard to explain why exactly, sorry ).
but on the bright side of things, i recently discovered this cool website called " listography " and it's actually kinda neat to mess around with ( i most especially love the colors that you can change your lists to, they're just all so pleasing to me lol ) ! along with that, i'm pretty sure i've got my special interests narrowed down, the major ones being furbys, drawing ( mostly being of my own characters ) + " eye bleeding " art / neoncore, and the less major ones consisting of clowncore / clowns + hyenas / yeens.

I do that too. something that slightly helps me is using a lice comb instead of picking, but sometimes i still scratch too hard with it : /
Fun fact stims like this (picking, hair pulling etc) are called Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) and are unfortunately super stigmatized. But talking to others with them helps me feel less gross about it!

hello everyone!!! my favorite stims are making a rolling r sound, jumping in one foot (when im really excited!!!), and playing with some silicone bracelets that i have. oh! those sequinned things that have doubke sided sequins are also super good, and visual stims like making really really bright art are awesome! well. sonetimes. also visual stimming by going outside when its snowing a lot and looking up, and tapping a wet plastic wire hairbrush on my hands or holding my hand under running cold water at the wrist. also pressure stimming!!! i have a weighted owl plush, but i also sit 'weird' in general lol
