I've looked in the local antiques mall, but our local antiques mall is... not really worth much of anything. I did see mounts, but they were wayyyy out of my price range - $600 and up, at a time when I had no job.
Wow, that coyote is gorgeous! You can tell he's a bit old, but what gorgeous coloration!

Yeah, mounts can be pretty expensive wherever you go, but occasionally you can find a decent price ... I was able to get my duck mount for $55, and it's pretty good quality. I was also able to get my caribou head for about $250, and they usually go for 2-3x that price. A website that I recommend for taxidermy/skulls/bones/whatever is SafariWorks. I've never ordered from them (or any taxidermy site) myself, but their mounts are good quality and they seem very trustworthy. Most of their things are more expensive since they sell a lot of exotic mounts and top quality work, but there's also several things that are cheaper.

And thanks! Yeah, I had never seen a coyote that color before I bought it, apparently they're kind of rare.

Admiral - hmm, I'll check out that site, if only to drool!

Hey light scales! Nice to see you here. Man, I wish I could get my hands on some seal bones! I'm way far from any coast though, so I'll have top buy some if I'm ever to acquire any. Ooh, I love mouse skeletons! They're really cool and cute. (That's... actually another hole in my collection, hm.) And I get not being able to get your own stuff - I'm lucky cause there's still quite a bit of wildlife around where I live, so I mostly get stuff because my friends are like "hey guess what I found."

Just bought a ram's horn and a pair of deer antlers with part of the skull. I also saw a shark jaw that I really want, but I'm not sure if the price is good ... it was about 8-9 inches wide and 8-10 inches tall, and mounted on a piece of wood. It was in good shape, all the teeth were intact and everything. It was $95. Does anyone know if that's a fair price?

Ooh, cool! I think that's a pretty good price, due to the size and mounting. I could be wrong though - they're pretty scarce here in the midwest!

I'm glad you have links to this topic in your sig, mngwa! I never would've thought to look for such a place of similar interest here.

I have a nice start to my collection. Been absent mindedly collecting bones and things since I was little, got serious about it though about... 5 or so years ago? I live on the edge of the forest so I find lots of things. I'll make a full list but as far as biggest I think a cow skull right now is my biggest. She's off getting cleaned thanks to connections (my old high school has a taxidermy class so I sent some specimens that need cleaned to a friend to take care of them for me).

Rest of my collection includes, that I have yet to get pictures of:
- dried sea horse
- dried salamander
- cattle jaw bones (unsure if they're cow or horse)
- bat jaw bones (gotten from owl pellets)
- random deer bones
- the rest of what I could find of Badger's body, which is mostly spine and rib cage
- whole mouse skeleton
- two mouse mummies
- moose antlers
- whole connected bird skeleton, looks mummified

- probably forgetting more for this list too... [/rambling]
