I got slide on the 22nd January 2012, so she's almost 2 years old. She isn't neutered either. The lump isn't growing at the moment from what I can tell, but it did appear pretty quickly to the point where I only just noticed it the day of posting first here... I do believe it got that way over a week, maybe week and 1/2. But I cannot say that for certain.

For now I have a feeling I will be taking her to the vet, deciding to hold off on surgery for now (as long as it isn't cancerous) and hopefully letting her continue to live her life as she does and keep an eye on her to make sure she's eating and drinking normally (which at the moment she is).

Ill see if I can get a picture of her for you guys, it just gets difficult downloading from phone onto photobucket then posting XD.

I'll tell her you and Pepper said hi!

Is it hard or squishy? My older bubs tend to get abscesses.. in all sorts of odd places. o.O I've only dealt with tumors a few times, usually they were just abscesses, though. But yeah.. as long as it's not harming her mobility/eating/drinking, she can live with it until it's her due time.

Before you take her to a vet, take a towel and dampen it in the hottest water you can without burning her (so.. warm water lul) and press it against the lump for like five minutes. If it softens, it's an abscess & is an easy fix.. I've learned how to stomach the grossness on my own and always have pain meds for the rats on hand so I just do it myself >.< not everyone can stomach it, but it'd definitely personally put my mind to ease knowing it's simple, so maybe it will for you, too. It's made of warms, so she should stay still for a hot compress. <3

Ohmygod is it 3 am here and somehow my rat's cage fell over and I didn't notice, Barley is my smartest and most friendliest rat and has slept with me a couple times came over to were I was sleeping on the floor a few rooms away (my aunt is in my room for her stay) and stayed by me he kept waking me up and I would just move him annoyed and go back to sleep, but than I woke up enough to realize that the rat was with me I just sat there confused and I went to the room with the cage and saw that it was on the ground I found the others two boys close to the cage and under the couch. It took me a bit to get ned but now everything is fixed. One of the cats was under the bed but thankfully it was the one who is scared of the rats not the one who wants to eat them

We got our new boys today! My boy is the black (possibly agouti) masked, he is named Banshee
My stepdad got his brother the blue masked, named Cyclops
Then my mom accidentally fell for the blue who she named Beast.

So we went from 2 rats to 5 today, and they are so cute!

I know, my sister already poked logic into hs name haha

My stepdad chose Cyclops first, then my mom was like 'he's blue! I have to call him Beast' so I decided to stick with the theme and go with the only other B name which is Banshee. (All names come from X-men which my whole family loves. Banshee has super sonic screams that he can use to fly, so he's a pretty cool character from the series. Plus Banshee just fits him haha

there are adorable! Ive never seen the mask markings before <3 yeah that happened to me one of my rats died and we went to go get another one so Barley could have a friend and we got two instead of one

What is the story of how you got your rats?

Luna was my first rat ever and she showed me how awesome rats are, she was a albino from a lab and was a couple weeks old she came with her sister to my 4th grade classroom were we did a study on healthy eating with them her name that was chosen by the class was Baby girl *barfs* so when the experiment was over two people were to take the rats home I had gotten really close to her and hogged her a bit XD and I somehow convinced my parent to let me keep her and she lived 3 years before we had to put her down because of tumors earlier this year

Stella was my second rat who we got from a local petco she lated two days and just sat there because she was so sick poor little baby, we got another hooded baby and named her Stella (I really wanted to name one that to match Luna) from the same place the next day one that was less sick and my moms a nurse so we nursed her to health she lived about two years before she hit another rough spot and even the ricu we made for when they got really bad didn't help we were going to take her to get put down but when we got her in a carrier she died, both rats got phases of the respiratory infection (luna caught it from Stella) and luna always did better and we really knew what we were doing but Stella just didn't get better but she had a good life and ended up way better than she could have. Oddly Luna never got the problem after Stella was gone

Erma and Violet were next to rescued hairless sisters who we took home for Luna. This was the first time we had ever had three rats I did something stupid and lost violet but I dont want to talk about that but lets say I am never making that mistake again Erma lived a year or so and I am still deeply upset about her lose we wanted to her her a friend when Luna died but the only place that we could get healthy rats only had boys and we wanted to get her spayed because we didn't want her to get tumors like luna and many other rats did she was ok after the surgery and all of a sudden she was dead when the vets got back from lunch. We decided to just get another boy for Barley who we had just gotten (my darling Siamese <3) he had never met Erma since we kept them separate for obvious reasons he was about 3 months old when we got him, so we went back to the awesome place with the boy rats and we were going to get one but we wanted to get the Hairless and one of the little Berkshire babies well we decided to get both XD we got Harry (the irony) who is a month older than Barley and we got Ned (my parents needed a GOH name XD) which was one of the babies. Ned was funny my mom said to pick a baby out and ned had kept coming up to me and was asleep in my shirt for like the whole time and I was just like "I have one in my shirt I think ive chosen" XD I actually had to hold him for the care trip since he was about the size of a mouse at the time and could fit through the bars of the small cat carrier we use to transport the rats around XD he is still the runt but he is really really fast

congrats you reached the end sorry for boring you if you actually read all this XD

I have a question about fur loss in rats?

My boy Mouse fur on his back is thinning. He has hair but he's sort of loosing his hair, it's not noticeable unless your holding him but I'm a bit worried. He doesn't have fleas or mites, I have already checked for that, and treated in-case. None of my other boys have it, just Mouse. I checked him over and his skin looks completely fine, he does have a scratch on his back but that's new and I'm not to worried about that. I don't think he has been over grooming or the others grooming him to much, honestly he isn't really the cleanest of my boys but he manages himself. Could this be down to breeding perhaps? Since now he is fully grown?
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(

Hmmm Ive have never seen that before, The only hair loss I have experienced is a hairless losing some fuzz when it gets older but thats natural, If it gets worse I would take him to the vet

Ohh, all you lucky people who have rats.
By the way my parents are acting, the only time I'll be able to get a rat is by the time I go off to college.
