didn't mikey like, not actually cheat and that whole rumor was just made up by fans or something? I've never had much strong feelings abt mikey (sorry blue!!!!!) but im fairly certain that they were divorced by the time he got with kristen. like 99% sure at least

also I feel it's kinda unfair to criticize him for like not being into stuff when he wasn't going through the best times in his life either tbh. people put a lot of focus on Gerard's struggle with substance abuse and mental illness and whatnot (and it's all very worth focusing on, not suggesting otherwise) but they never really do with mikey as far as I've seen.

It's not that I don't like him. I don't know him so I don't know if I like him or not. That being said, I do not respect him at all. He has no respect for women or marriage or family. It isn't just the cheating scandal. It's the cheating, getting engaged to the girl, breaking the engagement and getting engaged so soon after. It all just seems like a game to him and it's sad. Especially since his brother Gerard is such a dad like, I don't understand how Gerard can tolerate Mikey at this point. Also, as a bass player myself, I don't really respect him because even after playing for so long now, he lacks in basic theory and doesn't play very challenging or innovative tunes. There are some musicians whose bad judgement I can look past because their playing style is so influential and inspired but Mikey isn't one of them. He's good but not past that of any garage band bassist. He is cute though.

Also, I don't mind that he isn't that into it anymore. People go through phases and they decided what they want to stick with and it's okay to change your mind and decide you aren't that into something you used to be into. He doesn't owe anyone anything and the world won't end if he stops playing. You don't know what's going on in his life right now and maybe there's a reason he needed out of the music industry.

And onto the Mikey debate, he was never my favourite. In fact, he was my least favourite. The fact that he said that he didn't want to continue in MCR after the black parade, but they launched straight into a new album so the opportunity never arose, made me a bit sad. It made me think that even though he learnt bass just to join Gerard's band, that his heart was never in it, and that is kinda sad for such a emotional band, you want them all to really play with wholeheartedness and emotion and hearing that made me think he was reluctant. And also of course the whole cheating jazz. He also has changed a lot, as though he is getting rid of all traces of MCR...
I do however think he is a talented guy and he added a bit of his personality to the band and that is important.

I don't think you can blame him for not wanting to go on w/MCR after the Black Parade. I mean, at least he was real about it and I actually kind of wish MCR had ended after the Black Parade album/era; to me, it would have been going out on a really strong note for them. Danger Days always felt kind of showy and forced and not near as intimate or genuine as their other records. It lacked the sincerity of their other music and I hate that it was their last album tbh. It also bothered me a LOT that they quit going after Bob left without any real formalities or ever truly replacing him.

But like Jaded pointed out Mikey is a very mediocre musician, not a bad one by any stretch but nothing particularly gifted. I learned the bass in a lot of MCR songs and they are all very blah and basic to play. Which seems kind of wrong because all the other MCR members were very good at what they did; even if they weren't particularly groundbreaking, they are all certainly talented. Ray in particular is one of the best modern alt rock guitarists there around and one of the reasons I picked up a guitar to begin with.

I could look beyond his lack of talent/skill if he seemed like a really cool guy, but he just doesn't. Like I said I never liked him to begin with but I totally lost all respect for him after the whole cheating scandal, and yes mr peanutbutter he did legitimately cheat at least once, it's not just a scandal/rumor. I always try to give famous people the benefit of the doubt in those sorts of situations but the evidence was just too glaringly obvious.

Oh. A lot has been talked about! I'm glad to see the thread is moving and active. I haven't really given much thought to Mikey's whole situation. Because I- as a fan- will never truly know the whole situation. I still love every MCR member (Minus Bob. Please don't hate. Something just always seemed off about him.)

Yeah, now that I think about it, Mikey never really seemed that enthused with MCR. Maybe he should have left earlier? But anyway, if he really did cheat, which it sounds like he did, that is just sick and disrespectful on so many levels. I understand he was probably having a hard time in life, but that's not a reason to cheat. Ever.

@QOTD Black Parade. Hands down. I absolutely love the twisted, dark style paired with a parade, especially since I'm in marching band I did not know the costumes were designed by Tim Burton, but that makes it like, 20% cooler!! Plus the music on there is my favorite. Seriously, put that album on repeat for the rest of my life and I'll be a happy killjoy x3 Danger Days was fun too, and Gee just looks freaking gorgeous in Revenge era, but The Black Parade comes out on top for me.

Also, I had a dream about Gerard and Ray last night, is that normal? XD

tbh i think it's similar to the pete wentz """""scandal""""" with jeane white; people forget about his mental health and problems with addiction and straight away assume things that aren't necessarily true. unless you know mikey personally it's actually really rude to go around making assumptions like that about him as a person? because like imagine if you were mikey and people who didn't even know you but claimed to love your band were saying these kinds of things about you. you literally only know watered-down, scandal-worthy versions of things that've happened. none of us are mikey or one of the girls within the situation so we don't exactly at all have a leg to stand on. we will never know the real story because none of us were there at the time as mikey or one of the girls. things get so watered down after years and years that eventually the story changes and new people are painted like the bad guys - like that telephone game you play in primary with the whispering; it's strange to see how easy it is to get a completely new message from the original.
if he cheated, that was his decision and it's a decision he is going to have to live through his entire life with. you think he's glad he cheated and lost control? of course not! my own father had an affair when my parents were in the early stages of their relationship, and, nearly twenty years on, he still heavily regrets it more than anything else. he's definately not going to be proud of that. it's not something he's going to just ""get over"". calling him a ""player"" or a ""cheater"" is just plain rude and unkind. if you met mikey in the street would you go up to him and call him a cheater? no? that's what i thought. it's rude, especially considering you don't know him as a person.

but commenting on his musicianship is just plain rude? like didn't he learn bass JUST for this band? he's not like frank or ray who have always been naturally talented with these kinds of things; he learned an instrument just to plan out his big brother's crazy ideas. the basslines aren't supposed to be the full focus of my chemical romance; they're more about frank & ray's guitars and gerard's singing. almost all of their songs are drum or guitar driven; there are none, i believe, that are solely driven by his bassline - unlike, for example, fall out boy, where most of their songs are dictated by the basslines and drumlines. they're made to be simple in contrast to frank and ray's because of the fact that they aren't the main focus.
but you can't exactly blame him for wanting to leave after the black parade because for a while that was going to be the end. the big bang. the goodbye whisper and the final curtain. adding in danger days was because of the comic idea and of course everyone went along. you can't blame him because he wanted it to end after the black parade.

don't comment on people's lives if you don't know them. i don't care if you're a fan of the band. it doesn't give you any damn right to comment on who they are as a person.

How is it "rude" to comment on a professional musician's ability to play an instrument? It's not like anybody was like "omg Mikey is the worst bassist ever, he sucks, how could you like him, etc. etc." I don't think there's anything rude about stating the reality of his musical ability, especially since, you know, it was his career for more than a decade. As a musician myself I'm not offended at all if someone comments on the reality of my musical ability. I know there are things I'm not good at, and I'm cool with people acknowledging that, as most musicians are.

Also to me it's not just that he's mediocre, it's that his playing always felt kind of half-assed. Like he could be better if he wanted to...he just didn't care enough. He is a beginner level bassist and even most people with little talent will improve with experience...he never did.

But w/e I'm not hating him for his musical ability, just pointing out the reality. He may be fantastic at some other instrument, I know he did guitar/keys in Electric Century - he may be fantastic at those instruments, but I never bothered to listen to EC to find out.

Or as fans are we just supposed to all blindly follow and not say anything critical ever?

Also, as someone who is mentally ill, mental illness is not an excuse to behave like Mikey allegedly did. There is never an excuse for acting like an epic dirtball. I'm not 100% that's what you were trying to say but that's how your first few sentences came off, so sorry if I misread that.

Neither is being an addict; my ex was a pretty severe addict and used that as an excuse to cheat on me/treat me like a subhuman. Excusing an addict's behavior because "oh you're an addict, you can't help it" or "you didn't mean it because you were under the influence" just feeds the addiction and almost any rehab/detox program tells you one of the very first steps to getting clean is owning up to your actions. And who knows, maybe Mikey has done that now, and if so, good for him.

Also you can't act like the whole cheating thing was just made up by fans, there was a little more concrete proof coming from Mikey/the band themselves...I remember Lyn-Z absolutely tearing Mikey a new one on twitter when it was all first going on. Since she's Mikey's sister in law, I feel sure she knew much better than any of us what was actually going on.

But all of that aside, I never cared of Mikey to begin with...so even if he didn't cheat and was 100% innocent (which I severely doubt) I still wouldn't like him.

Just because you're a fan and like the music, doesn't mean you're obligated to like all the band members or never say anything critical about them. I mean heck, Gerard is one of my idols and he is in part responsible for who I am today but he's done stuff artistically that I was not a fond of at all and I won't hesitate to say that. Love does not equal blind following.

I'm not trying to be argumentative or rude here so please don't read what I'm saying as that.
