I think that it is overused and that its just a go-to. They always just choose it, and I think it is rude.

I ship Rarity and Spike for a couple reasons:
A. Have you watched "Shrek 2" and "Shrek 3"? Donkey and Dragon have babies. If they can have babies, why can't Spike and Rarity? And I'm not talking about now. Just when they're older.
B. I think they're perfect for each other. Rarity may not feel the same way towards Spike at the moment, but I think she'll warm up to him eventually.
C. They're the only cannon couple as of now. There might be more later, but for now, they're really the only straightforward couple in the show.

Shipping is the same as saying "oh, I want this character to date/be girlfriend or boyfriend with this other character."
So, by saying I ship Spike and Rarity, I'm saying that I want Spike to eventually date Rarity, and maybe even be her boyfriend some day. Make sense?

Do you not like some of my ships? X) That's okay. I'm not a fan of some people's ships, either. But that's perfectly fine; we all have different opinions.

I don't think it's rude at all. I think it's adorable. Spike, a young dragon, and Rarity, a some-what grown pony. What's not to love?
Your reasons for not liking it are actually very illogical. Hating something just because everybody else likes it is not a very good reason to hate something.

I don't ship Dr. Whooves with anypony, really. But when I do ship him, I ship him with Carrot Top. X)
