Okay, figured out my gyroid problem. I've just been unlucky so far, it doesn't seem like any are rarer than the others (except for the Brewstoid of course).
But now I have another question, and all my Google searching has gotten me nowhere. Can you buy a real piece of artwork from Redd, and then go and sell it for more at Nook's Cranny? Do they even buy artwork? Basically, is there any reason to buy multiples of the same artwork if you don't do online trades?

From looking at a couple artwork in a item guide, it seems they sell for less than what you buy them for. The only reason to get them if you don’t trade online is if you want them for decorating.

It's just random chance, from my experience. I've only ever watered my gyroid fragments once and have gotten many different types.

iv gotten back into my second island, still trying to breed hybrids , no green moms or purplewind flowers on it yet (or blue roses but i might just bring them from my other island using my friend)

Has Redd's boat shop worked the same way the whole time, or did they change it with the update? I could have sworn that Redd would always have at least one real artwork every visit, but today he proved me wrong. All four were fakes. That's the first time it's happened for me.
Maybe I was just assuming it worked that way because that's how it was in New Leaf.

It's a low chance, but they can all be fake! On the other hand, there's a chance for them to all be genuine.

I've always quite frequently gotten all fake art pieces from Redd, before and after the update. I've never once had more than two genuine art pieces, as far as I can remember. I might just be very unlucky haha.

Man Redd is adamantly refusing to visit my island, and I need him so I can unlock Brewster. I have 60 things donated but he won't show up
