Good luck! I love writing/underlining passages in mine, it's part of what has taken me so long to get through it.

Yes, I do that too, that's what has been my biggest issue, since I only have an ebook copy. I like making notes about things that stand out, or thoughts that I have about certain scenes or characters that I might want to remember later. It makes reading a lot more of a person experience, I think, being able to add your thoughts to a book. I always write in pencil though- I feel guilty if I write in pen and permanently mark up the page ^.^"

the copy i have belongs to my mother, so i can't mark it up even if i wanted to
i usually just stick with post-it notes anyway because then i can find scenes more easily (different colors for quotes, characterization, etc.)
however im still so upset about jehan's death that i haven't even looked at the book in days
on a happier note has everyone here heard the 1980 french concept track for 'do you hear the people sing'? i don't know french but it still gives me chills just listening to it, just like the english version.

I don't blame you. After some of the deaths, I had to walk away from the book for a bit and just take some times to calm down and come to terms with it. Character deaths are the worst when you get attached, especially when they're as well written as these ones.
And yes, I love that song so much! It's simply amazing to hear in the original french version, it sounds so perfect. I think it sounds better in french than it does in english, honestly, but that's just me being in love with their language and not being particularly fond of my own ^.^" It flows so smoothly, and the accent just adds to it. The singers in this version really are great too.

The original French concept never fails to make me cry, no matter what song! There's just something about hearing Les Mis in French (even if I know next to none) that makes it just a little bit better.
And it took me a while to get over my hate of writing in books but once I did, my copies of Les Mis have so many notes in them! Especially the copy I took my speech from, and I can now confidently say I've memorized a whole chapter of the book. Next year I'm thinking of doing one of Enjolras's speeches, it shouldn't be too hard to find one long enough.

OMG! I turned the volume up whenever something Les Mis related was shown! BUT IT DIDN'T WIN BEST PICTURE!
The real question here though is, were any of us actually expecting it too?
I saw Argo (the winner) when it was in theaters, I thought it was a fairly good movie but Les Mis was better. Of course, I'm extremely biased...

Aaron Tveit always looks fantastic ^.^ I really liked that he had the red square in his pocket (handkerchief?)- it was like he brought a little piece of Enjolras's flag on with him. It was perfect.
Honestly, I was so happy during the performance, but really sad too, because if you think about it, that was their last time ever performing as a cast... All the same, I thought the performance was spectacular, and I loved that that brought on cast from the musical- it was awesome to see everyone up there together.
Okay, so what do you guys think of Russel Crowe, in general, as Javert? Like singing and acting-wise. I've heard a wide range of opinions, so I'm curious.
(My parents rented Argo earlier this weekend so we have it for a month. I've been excited to see it since I saw the previews- I plan on watching it tonight if I have the chance, see if it lives up to its award.)
