someone else who hasn't been on here in like a year oops
SEREN HEY. HOW YOU BEEN.
so, random question out of total curiosity - has anyone ever had a group roleplay actually last? because the roleplays that last seem to be a) onexones or b) very very low lit. is this actually an achievable reality, or just an ideal no one's ever achieved?

never in my life!!! i've been on here for years and made a ton of roleplays but not a single one of them has lasted past the first two days. it's really disappointing, especially given how much time i used to devote to coding them and developing plots (although looking back on my old work nowadays . . .
yikes)

I'm another old time user yes hi
The thing about group roleplays is that they're incredibly hard to sustain on a forum. I've done roleplaying on and off over the course of the past six years or so, and I've had a few that have lasted quite a while. But most were actually way back in the day when I roleplayed at a low literacy level. There was a one on one that I once had that went on for over a year, though it was decent in term of literacy.
The sad truth is that the longer the post = the harder it is to reply. Most roleplayers who write at a high level of literacy tend to be very busy [ commonly they're older and thus have more to do ], and writing long posts seems to be rather time consuming. At some points it even becomes a nuisance.
Now, on the contrary, I've gone through many different forms of roleplay as well. There was one form that was able to sustain a high level literacy alongside quite a hefty duration of roleplaying time. It was actually "in-game" roleplaying, meaning it was done throughout a video game. Generally it'd just be a group of people [ whom all get to know each other OOC ] with a very, very broad plot line. For example, a character of mine happened to be part of a Vanguard positioned in a specific city. That was basically the general purpose of the group we had, so plot lines could be created wherever and whenever and tended to be pretty flexible while also organized.
Of course, when the entire group gathered the literacy level had to be lowered so that everyone could interact with what was going on. But when say a few went off on their own [ which was usually the case: groups of around 5 was more common than to our total of 30, though at least once a week we would all come together ] you could raise it depending on how little people you had.
It was very dynamic and probably one of the most enjoyable types of roleplaying I've done, as the groups last for a long time. And when this happens, you become more attached to your character and the storyline. Plus you also get to know the people you're roleplaying with and create some great friendships. People are commonly free to come and go as they please as well [ unless say, your character is of prime importance, then it becomes a bit more complicated ], and more often than not, people would have other friends who their character interacted with outside the group.
Anyways, the group I'm talking about has been together since around 2012. I joined for say half a year in 2015, and then gradually stopped. They're still at it even now.
The one big difference with this is that in order to perform this form of roleplay, it had to be in time. Meaning you would set apart a certain amount of time in a day [ or just whenever ] to roleplay for a certain amount of time. So yes, I have roleplayed for around 24 hours straight when a friend of mine and I decided to challenge ourselves in the roleplaying scene. [ which, btw, 10/10 I suggest doing at least once as a roleplayer; you don't truly know your character until you're writing for them during a fight/love scene while absolutely sleep deprived ]
Overall, it was almost a preferable type of roleplay. We always covered more content and the roleplay always felt moving. It didn't linger on a single day for, well, more than a day. [ unless it was private in which that case you could put a specific day in the roleplay on "pause" till later notice ] Plus it was generally more sustainable.
Forum roleplays just don't move forward in the way that it did. That and shorter replies lead to more character interaction in the end. Us roleplayers here and on advanced scribes may make a big deal in regards to "how much we can write/code" in a response, but I've found that the most effective roleplaying is the shorter, simpler type. After all, five paragraphs regarding the scenery isn't exactly necessary.
It was also fun because when it came down to it, the roleplay moved on with or without you, unless it was a private one. Many see this as unappealing but it really isn't.
I started roleplaying in this way back on a very old site in which we used chat boxes on a daily basis with say one or two characters of your own. My experience back then, funnily enough, was the exact same as the one I explained just above, just in a not-so-mature way. "In-game" roleplayers surprisingly tend to be 18+ at least 95% of the time. The mature community was extremely enjoyable to roleplay with.
also whoops this was long
but there you have it

one of my group roleplays lasted five months. it was only four people, though, and there were some long periods of inactivity.
still, it was really awesome and i'm still sad that it ended.
i tested the veer fonts to see if you could still manipulate the url and you can! dodged a bullet there guys, whew
