“There are many unusual things in this world,
Everyday events occur that can not be explained.
Bizarre phenomenon that often goes unnoticed,
Because people close their eyes to what they don’t understand.
But the truth of the matter is….
There are many unusual things in this world,
And people,… people, are the most mysterious of them all…”

Darkness, black… a color with no light. That is all that the girl could see reflected in the eyes of the macabre creature that stood before her. The girl trembled under its gazing eye, feeling all emotions being sucked out of her but one, fear.
This creature, with a face of a pterodactyl’s skull, wearing a plain white kimono*(1), daggers like claws coming out where hands should be, and a small wisp of smoke that was supposed to be the bottom of the kimono and legs.
It never said anything, for it knew that silence was ever the more worse. It was always the same….
Till, it took a turn this time. A light shown in the room as a girl in a flowing ice blue kimono walked in. The girl couldn’t see this newest person’s face as it was done over in shadow. But this intruder just her hands up as she took out a few seals.
“Minu ga hana…”*(2)
The seals began to glow, and the girl needed to close her eyes from the other person. Soon enough, the whole room disappeared…
~~~
The girl gasped as she awoke from her dream. Sweat was pouring down her face. She rubbed her foggy blue eyes and ran her fingers threw her light sea green hair.
Ever since the car accident, where her parents died,… Meisu Shigofumi had been alone, trying to act as if it hadn’t effected her life as a whole. But she knew she was just kidding herself, and knew she was secretly sad inside, even if she felt they deserved it a bit…
She slapped her cheeks to snap out of her gloomy mood and hopped out of bed.
Another nightmare… she had been having them ever since that accident, and she had no idea why. But, never had that other person come into it. Meisu was confused by it all, but shrugged it off by the time was out the door.
In the southern part of Japan, way out in the rural country, there is a small village. The village of Okimimiya. That is where Meisu and around 95 other children lived. Little under 200 people lived in the village, so you could say that anyone that has ever lived here, was most likely born here.
The village was next to a dense forest that covered from there to the far off mountains, which happened to be the only way to get in and out of the village. Not like anyone ever did come or go, though…
Meisu soon rounded the corner to where the schoolhouse was. It was same compared to other schools, but you get what ya’ get! At least everyone knew everyone here.
Luckily, Meisu got to class on time right before the bell rang. She smiled as she looked over her classmates.
A lot of different ages, only some belonging to the same age as her own, 15 years.
Meisu smiled at her classmates and sat down, happy to have normal classmates. Now, one would only be happy about that if there was someone abnormal. And that someone….
“Hello! Nya~!” the 16 year old boy yelled as he opened up the sliding door.
Rolo Tsukuyomi, the weirdest teen in the class, but you would never tell him that… because… he was a Tsukuyomi. The younger brother of the Miko of the village’s shrine.
Well, most of the time, classmates found Rolo’s actions cute because of how weird they were…
Meisu mentally cursed them to Hell.
It was the middle of summer, it the peak of June. So of course, everyone was in their summer uniform. The day dragged on, Meisu just staring out the window, feeling the cool wind blow in her face. But before she knew it, it was time to go.
The bell rang early because of what day it was. It was the day of Moon watching, a day where the villagers praised the town’s God, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto*(3), and celebrated with a ritual from the shrine family, the Tsukuyomi’s that held the name of the God they were protectors to, as they protected said God’s shrine.
The celebration would be on later that night and Meisu couldn’t wait for it. And neither could Rolo it seemed…
“Yay!!!! My sis is going to do a great job during the dance, just you guys wait! She has been practicing all year! Nya~!” she yelled about to everyone as they were being let out.
His pink eyes seemed to shine with excitement and as for Meisu’s eyes, she rolled.
No matter how crazy a student like Rolo can be, sometimes what he says speaks for all the class students.
No one, not even Meisu, could wait for the festival that night…
Okay, so that’s the 1st chapter up for you guys! It can be seen as more of a prologue, us getting a hold on the setting and current characters.
As for the terminology…
1: There is an old legend that speaks of the kimono colors associated with red and white. Red means to be captured and white means to die. So the creature was wearing a kimono of death so to speak.
2: The words that the other person said is a Japanese saying, that means “ Not what I expected.” So it seemed that the person didn’t expect whatever took place in Meisu’s dream.
3: Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto is the god of the moon in Shinto and Japanese mythology.
