Hope it's okay if I post here!
I don't claim to be all that great at battling. I've never been the best at putting together movesets, but since I've been doing a lot of wonder trading events I've been getting some good pokemon, so I've been doing some battling lately.
I have a bad habit of not switching, although I've been getting a lot better at trying to predict things. If this makes any sense, do any of you have tips for when and when not to switch out?

I used to be bad with that too (and still am mostly haha XD). I find playing a lot of Rotation battles in the Maison or wherever can really help.

Me too. I rather let the current pokemon get defeated than letting another pokemon take a hit. I don't want to lose a round, moves for switching can be useful, but I don't use them very often.
I used to be online a lot here, but I became bored of this site and I don't like some of the rules here.
Now I'm pretty busy as well. You can still try to message me though, I might be online again now and then : )

being able to predict your opponent's moves is important to learning when and when not to switch. generally it's good to switch when you can switch in to a pokemon that will provide you some kind of advantage in battle (type match ups, cure status, baton pass etc), but at the same time, you have to know your opponent won't be able to either predict your switch and punish it or quickly make a switch or move of their own to negate whatever advantage you gained. it's even better if you can effectively limit your opponents viable options for the next move to make sure there's nothing they can really do to punish you, that way you know it's safe to switch. on the other hand, don't switch if you have no idea what your opponent is going to do next, you can't get any advantage from switching, and/or you know your opponent will easily be able to cancel out your advantage. also be aware of set ups that can hurt/status you on switch in (spikes, stealth rock etc) just as important as knowing when to switch is knowing which pokemon to switch in to. in general is can be really situational and depends on how well you can read your opponent's moves, so it can take some practice. and of course it can take a while to get used to making strategic and/or defensive moves when at first it might seem like it makes more sense to stick with purely offensive options, but once you get a hang of the technique, a smart and timely switch can really make or break a battle for you.
