Surprisingly, everyone wanted the berkshires over him. I was like.. but.. but he's so handsome!
He's nekkid at the moment lol.. double-rexyness. c: I love it.
I told Shea it's meant to be since he's staying so long <.<.. >.>.. breed him to Sueann when he's old enough instead of Sullivan to add some markings into the lines.. and breed Sullivan to Naomi for her second time.. hnng. ;-; love the thought already.
Oh my flip he's adorable >-< I want him <3

I just found out where my two rats came from today.
I got my rats from a pet shop however the pet shop got them from my college.
The college keep the rats in small cages, most of them get out because the cages are poor and they set traps to kill them. They use wood-chips for the floor and most of the rats are ill. They breed them constantly, just leave males and females in the same tank. They use the babies to feed the snakes.
My babies are lucky!
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(

Things like that make me wish that it was possible to call in animal abuse. People are deplorable I swear. If my college was running an operation like that, I'd be all for telling them what I think of them and then transferring to a more animal friendly school. Luckily, my school doesn't work with live animals at all currently. They did just finish the science building though, but already a large group of students have gone to the board concerned about animal testing and abuse that would go on there if rats and mice are brought in. The board assured them, and the whole school, that any study would be strictly behavioral and all animals would be treated with respect or the priviledge of having them for science classes would be revoked.

Exactly, I really wish I could do something about it but sadly they are within the law as UK law does not cover rats and mice, they are considered vermin. Sadly my views would not get across. The only way anything could change was if I faced up to the person who runs the animal center and being the fact that he made me cry last year because of how rude he was to me, I won't be doing that. The college are more concerned about getting new animals and keeping up with the more exotic animals such as the otter, meerkats, lemurs and birds.
I got offered a beautiful rat from college today. They have some new dark fawn/ orange colored rat, he was tame also. If only my mum would allow me to get another one. He was beautiful and friendly, he doesn't deserve to be there. :(

Naomi is showing a belly-bump already. ^-^ SO happy.
I'll be going to my friends tomorrow to drop off her mice, and, picking up some new rats for myself for my future breeding projects. HOPING I can find something nice like a cinnamon or a lilac, just of age to take this time! I always find beautiful ones that aren't old enough to be weaned I swear.. <.<
I'm fairly excited. I LOVE going to my friends and playing with her ratties..

If I have to give up my rats, is it an appropriate action to ask a rat breeder if they could take them just because I want my girls to get a good home? Or is that not something you do, and I'd just have to take them to the humane society and hope for the best (and have to get over feeling like I abandoned them)?

Uhm.. pm your location? Like, are you in the states? Stupid question I know.
I know a few rat groups on FB you could post them and see if someone would take them as pet-only.
If I were closer I'd gladly take them, but I haven't a clue where you are.
Personally my mentor and I being breeders DO take in rats on an 'emergency' case like they have to go ASAP and they're friendly and so on and easy to home but rats that are considered problem rats (such as biters, I have a few myself from rescues.. I don't regret them but I really wish I'd of been informed on their personality/bad habits first, I can't rehome them AT ALL) are usually something a breeder won't take >.< I take shy rats from time to time to be honest, just to socialize then adopt them out to their forever home..

Yeah, I'm in the states; just about right in the middle of them.
What exactly falls under 'emergency case'? Like, having no options really except take them to the humane society?
All of my rats are good girls, sweet and with their personalities. For some strange reason (none of my previous rats have been this way) one of them sort of mouths/ nips when you first reach in the cage, but after that she's the sweetest little thing who doesn't leave you..would she be considered problematic?
