genetics are a big interest of mine, i always leap at the chance to help if someone asks. xD
@amethyst14
!! i kind know a little bit of it yeah, and here's a description of it according to messybeast for those who are curious :^0 (MB a gr8 resource of anything cat-related, helped me a bunch with learning genetics actually!)
"Fever coat usually means that the mother had an infection while pregnant or that she was stressed or on medication (the last condition can happen if the owner doesn’t realise their cat is pregnant). The kittens have the so called “fever coat” when born, but it fades and by the time they are about 6-8 months it has gone completely. Fever coat is means the pigments haven’t been properly deposited in the fur so it can appear silvery-grey, cream or reddish. In extreme cases, black smoke kittens have been born with what appears to be Siamese colouration – a creamy coloured body with black extremities."

just realized that can make me sound like a crazy cat lady! I promise I am not! I have found homes for the majority of the sweet cats that don't seem to be to feral. If it seems like they can't be re-homed then I do that trap-fix-release thing so they can spend the rest of their days in my barn if they want and I don't have to worry about babies. (Though there are the clever few that don't get caught in the traps)
It can be hard but there is a program here to catch "wild" cats and get them fixed and return them to the area you got them. I have caught 16 cats and re-homed like 10 or so, but I don't have to pay anything to get them fixed so that is nice. If they are to aggressive I take them back to the barn and I don't have mice problems. I feed them too, once a day I will fill the dishes so I know they won't starve to death and they drink out of the water bin that the horses don't seem to mind sharing.
I also have two kitties of my own that are just pampered and spoiled(maybe three soon). I might post pictures of them some day but I get lazy with photos xD

➵ tried to dig up all the addition suggestions haha
i was thinking maybe there's a tiny, randomized chance a patrol could find a 'stat boosting' item and you have the option to give it to one of your cats. like when equipped to a cat they can have certain advantages such as:
1) higher chance of finding new clanmates
2) decreased chance of dying
3) able to choose what one kit in a litter will look like
4) give a skill to an apprentice without sending them to train
5) guarantees mother and kits will not die during kitting
5) plus more???

Every chosen day (Mon/Tues/Whatever), everyone gets a chance at a lucky dip. They could win a cat, prey, herbs or could get struck by something terrible such as a rogue, fox, badger or something!

artorias wrote:@Katrione - i like the lucky dip idea dino suggested! maybe... something to do with kits? like the younger a queen is the more likely it would be to have a large litter, as they they get older the more likely it is to have smaller kits AND the increased chance of stillborn kits. and maybe some kinda morality feature where unless a kit isnt watched over: their survival rate drops and if so - they die. although thats unlikely seeing as the live in an entire clan pfft

That's a really good idea actually! Maybe the older the queen is, the higher the chance she'll have birth complications and die?
hazilnut wrote:@littering
But isn't it that more experienced queens tend to deliver kits better? I feel like the second or so litter would be the safest to deliver and possible the largest?
Simonpet wrote:@littering: Maybe the first litter of a young queen is small (2-3 kits), the second and third are the largest (4-6 kits) and every litter after that is in between (2-6 kits) but each successive litter has a slightly higher chance of complications (5%, 10%, 15%, etc.) and it would be randomized between stillborn kits, runts, and the queen (and possibly her kits) dying.

@Art
Ahh! I remember all of these! I'm saving this in a Google doc so I don't lose it again!! I'll pick one of these randomly and start figuring out how to implement it. I will most likely implement a new one at the next gathering, which is tomorrow!!
