do you fellow non-earthlings prioritize gender first or personality? when you are deciding who you want to play? or in other words, what characteristics do you look for when reserving a character?
definitely the gender. i prefer playing males over females. sure, i'm a chick but playing a male allows more creativity and flexibility through my writing. when it comes to role playing chicks, i feel as though it's too strict and there's some unspoken law you cannot break. with guys you can make them entirely immature while keeping everyone amused not annoyed. girls are often seen as attention seekers within a role play. if they're loud, other chicks do not like their company. if they're shy, they're dull. the "average" girl character feels completely limited. this might have not made any sense. if there's not an open guy spot that i will enjoy (humorous, funny, charmer) then i do not join the role play. i totally look for the gender over characteristics.

same as cori, i prefer playing the males.
however the preference is hardly there since i'm really comfortable with both genders.
people just snatch up the girls the fastest. xD
now for personality, most characters that i make tend to be the same.
so i try going for more diversity when picking for characters
and choose something that i don't usually play.

same with most of the people i like playing male characters over females, but honestly i could go with either one. what i really don't like are the roleplays that have really elaborate set personalities for characters. i'm okay with a few words, like "faithful, fierce, fiery" or stuff, but not full paragraphs about them. i don't have any preferences over which personalities though, since i like some diversity in different personalities. i may not be the best at roleplaying them out, but i still like them cx

the evil females and the leader type males. so i go more for the personality then the gender to answer the question c:

personality primarily, although the ones I prefer seem to coincide more with males than females.
idk but I'll play both. usually I look at role and personality, and then gender and perhaps faceclaim if I really need to.

depends, what kind of program do you have? there's gimp, which is free [but makes kinda sucky stuff] or photoshop.
i personally use photoshop
now teach me your secrets
silly rose - you deserve to be nominated for, like, everything. and thorney's coding is just whoa how
when looking for a character, it really depends. generally i look for someone who resonates with me. like, i'd have a hard time playing a tough character, because that's not at all me. i know you're supposed to try to branch out but roleplaying is just a hobby so i'm not too concerned c:
