aw this is super cool! maybe show us some pictures some time?

mngwa gave me a coyote foot, but that's all i have. she's currently processing the body of my first rabbit, and a baby wild bunny that died of wounds sustained by falling into a window well. i'm just really interested in this stuff, and reading about it. :0 i don't have the cash on hand to do any collecting though.

I have a little collection of pelts, tails, feathers, and some random things like an antler, a coyote face, a few unknown leg bones (and maybe parts of a spine, I may have lost those), and a hare's foot. I also have a few cat teeth from when my kitten was teething and some whiskers that she's shed.
I remember when I was little, I found an old deer skeleton in the forest near my house and wanted to take the skull home but my mom wouldn't let me cx

Sp4cep00ch - wow! How did you get a seal skull? I hope you'll show us pictures sometime!

Raena - that's pretty much how I started out, though it started with a couple fox tails and some prairie dog bones. I wish I still had the tooth from when one of my cats was teething, but it's disappeared. A word of warning, be careful of which feathers you pick up. The Migratory Birds Act here in the states is really strict. (If you're outside the states, you still might want to check up on it.)
Man, a big part of vulture culture is just looking back and seeing how many dead things you missed out on, I swear.

Yeah, I know about the Migratory Bird Act, but thanks c: The problem is I've been collecting feathers since before I turned 10, so I already had a pretty big collection when I heard about the Act. I've stopped collecting feathers since, but I still have a bunch that I don't really know what to do with. I don't want to just throw them away or something, so I keep them hidden in an old shoebox in my closet ;-;

Mm, I get you there. There hae been a few items I've had to make that decision with. To be honest, I would say let them return to nature, but it's your choice, and I get the value you place on them. Up to you!

I unfortunately don't have any bones or skulls yet, but I really want some. I do collect taxidermy, though. I currently have 6 mounts, along with some other smaller things (tails and horns and antlers and whatnot). c:

    Ah im so glad theyres finally a thread for this! I have many smaller bones and feathers ive collected over some time. Sadly I live in the city so I rarely have time to go to any nearby forests to look for any bones. I'm always unsuccessful though because im so close to the city aha. At the moment I'm having an opossum skull and domestic cat skull shipped over to me from a friend, im super exited for those to arrive!

    But I am looking at buying a coyote or sheep skull from etsy or amazon!

Admiral - Oh, that's super cool! I don't have any mounts yet, though not for lack of trying. I haven't even been able to find mounted deer heads, if you'd believe it. (Part of it, I think, is that I don't have terribly much cash...) What mounts do you have? And would you care to take a picture of your biggest one for the week's theme? I'd love to see it!

Yikes - I was hoping there was one already made, but I went and made it myself! I'm glad that we've found more that 2 vultures on here - I was a bit worried this thread would die in a flash due to there not being many of us.
I started out that way as well. I live in a suburb, not a city, but it's still harder to find things than it would be were I more towards a forest. I've actually found little thickets off highways to be a great place to find bones, if that helps you? We've got a lot of those where I live, as well as a lot of "be careful of wildlife crossing the road" areas, and... well. Bones galore!

For the both of you - One nice place to get skulls for fairly cheap is hideandfur.com, which sells great stuff at lower prices. They're honestly my favorite place to buy from, as they give you accurate conditions of the items, have regular sales, and are still fairly cheap. (I promise they're not paying me off, they're just a great company.)

Have you tried looking in antique stores for mounts? Antique malls can be good places to look for mounts and whatnot, and sometimes you can come across a pretty good deal!

I have a deer head, a duck, a pheasant, a blackbuck antelope head, a coyote, and a caribou head. My camera is unfortunately not working at the moment, and I only have a picture of my coyote on this computer, will that be okay? The caribou head and coyote are about the same size. Here's a picture of the coyote:

I got it at an antique mall, and you can kind of tell that it's not brand new (one ear is torn a little bit), but I don't think he's bad looking.
