Have you ever had a rat?: Yes, right now I have 31 ratties. 2 groups of girls that play together, 2 groups of old boys and a new girl that we just took in this afternoon who is on pregnancy watch.

Any ideas when you can tell babies genders? Like how old do they have to be?

You can really tell right away, from days old.

The most obvious thing is that girls have nipples and boys don't... and by the time boys are 3/4 weeks old their "boy bits" are very obvious... you really can't miss them!

Have you ever had a rat?: Yes! I currently have my two gorgeous girls, Axel and Aryll! They are sisters, and both Dumbo rats. I love the adorable ears. Aryll is a pretty kind of masked grey/silver, and Axel is black with silver hairs mixed in and a white belly. I would show pictures, but I have no way of uploading them any more :C. A family friend is a rat breeder but for some reason nobody wanted my girls so she gave them to me.

Thanks. I was checking out another person with Ratties ready in October and they said they don't know the gender. The babies are like 5? Days old. I think.

Not everyone can tell at that age I guess, but it is possible to tell and I would think a decent breeder should be able to tell.

Well I just read their post again, and they said both parents are from pet stores, so I'm assuming that this is the first litter they have had. I'm probably going to go with the original breeder that I'm second in line for. Just was checking around in case something happens where there aren't enough males for the person in front of me and myself to have two each, or whatever.

In my lifetime, over 27. I currently have 18, soon to lower as some aren't officially mine and are going to their new homes soon. More or less, I was just getting them on the healthy side before giving them to their owners. OCD moment, I guess. I hate rehoming rats when they're sick, I like to have mine as healthy as can be.
