The Basics

Introduction to Rune Dragons

Rune Dragons are very special creatures that come in a variety of colors and species. Through my many travels of exploring the world, I will introduce new Runes that can be adopted to good homes with loving owners. Most Runes have talents and quirks that belong to just that one species but in the end every rune is special and unique. You will find a companion for life in these little creatures ,who are about the size of owls, and can be mainly seen perched on their owner's shoulder giving any passer by an inquisitive stare. Any Rune that I find I will be sure to inform you of and maybe one day you can own your own special Rune too.

Runes are dragons that inhabit our world of Eldemore. They can not speak but they are extremely intelligent and sociable creatures and those who own them appear to be able to know what they are saying. Many Runes are only indigenous to certain parts of the globe, but I have been traveling quite frequently and come across many findings that I write in my journal for others to view later on. There are even very special runes that we call 'Ancients', dragons who are capable of speech and very large in size, they hold immense power and dominion over certain elements and are rarely seen by others. These dragons can only be summoned by special rune stones that I rarely come across. However, these stones call out to those who are destined to befriend these giant beasts and are only found once every month. Every human has a rune dragon as a companion for most of their lives since runes are known to live as long or longer than their owners. When one bonds with you then the two are bonded for life and even a special connection is made between the owner and dragon. It is my job to pair each person with their soul rune, and I hope to achieve this goal through much exploration and findings!~Benathorn

Fan Club Rules

~Anyone with a Rune Dragon may join the Fan Club, but those who have not yet won or otherwise received one cannot, at present.
~Please do not steal or ever claim the species, the Rune Dragon designs or the back story surrounding the Rune Dragons as your own creation.
~You may use the dragons in CS signatures, stories, RPs, or just as a friend.
~You may never sell a Rune Dragon, whether you have won it or not.
~Do not remove from the CS website. The only offsite place where the Runes are allowed is the official fanclub forum.
~Do NOT use any of the Rune Dragon-related ideas without permission! This includes the Rune Dragons' world.
~Do not make art of Runes turning into Ancients if the Runes are not your own.
~Only owners of Ancients may request commissions being made of their pre-made design and you must ask their permission to make fan-art of it first. This also goes for regular runes. Do not make art of others' runes if they have not requested it or you're participating in one of the judgings. You MUST have permission from the Rune's owner before creating art of it!
~You must give credit for the Ancients/Regular Runes design to the original artist, and cannot claim the design as your own.
~Do not order art of from other artists depicting a regular Rune as an Ancient. Only the owner of a Rune may create fan art of what theirs might look like. This counts as stealing our adoptables and will not be tolerated.
~Do not order commissions of baby Runes growing if they have not been grown yet. This is also basically stealing our adoptables and making them your own.
~Do not make shops or sell Rune Dragon ideas in auctions. This is stealing and only the owner of this species may request a shop to be made.
~Do not make "Fake Pets" of the Runes.
~Any form of art theft will result in a strike and the offender will be reported.
~If you create fan art of a rune dragon then please be sure to give proper credit to the original artists.
~Please be kind and show respect to the other users and artists on this thread. Any arguing will be reported as spam and either a warning or strike will be given depending on the situation.
~Bullying or harassment of other members in the Rune Dragon community will not be tolerated. You will be immediately reported and banned.
~If you are banned from the Rune Dragons, you then forfeit your Runes to other users who will take care of them.
~Definition of Banned: You will no longer be allowed to participate or communicate in our main thread, fanclub, offsite forums, or anything that has absolutely anything to do with our Rune Dragons. This is a very sad but serious thing and it is very unfortunate when someone is banned. We always try to make sure it does not come to this.

What is an Ancient, and how do I get one?

When Rune Dragons reach a certain age and level of power, they become Ancients. They grow into big, powerful and very influential creatures, which can be summoned through a Summoning Stone. They bond to one human for life, in either a 'Blessed' or 'Cursed' Pact, depending on the dragon.

There are two ways to get an Ancient. Once a month, Jendalie and Benathorn each create an Ancient Rune Dragon, which they place between the normal Runes in the Adoption thread, and these are sold to the highest bidder of CS pets. Each of these dragons are unique, and very special.

The other way is very uncommon. Sometimes Benathorn offers to 'grow' a normal Rune Dragon into an Ancient. This does not happen often.

Each user may only have one Ancient.

How do Rune Bearers work? How many can I have, and what species are they?

Rune Bearers are humans who have bonded or befriended Rune Dragons. While your computer persona can 'have' Runes, you can also create characters, for stories and roleplays, to 'bear' the Runes that you have won. These characters must be human, but you may have as many as you want. They can look however you wish them to look, as long as this appearance fits within the world of Eldemore, which is a Victorian Era-like, slightly Steampunk world.

[i]I still recall the first time I had laid eyes on a dragon. The mystical creature woven into tales and stories by breathing fire or speaking with a child. They mesmerize me and have forever kept a place in my heart, as I promised myself that when I grew up I would someday prove to the world that they exist! Of course this is just a child's dream and as we all know they are the most purest and heartfelt. When I was old enough to set out from my home, I had already documented some of the runes that lived near my grandmother's cottage. In the forest nearby, and near the pond out back, I discovered the first few runes with the colors of red, green, and blue. I kept a record of all this in my leather bound journal given to me by my grandmother, to follow my dreams, and a pair of old pilot goggles that my grandfather used to wear. Both very dear treasures to me and a symbol to my cause, I soon set out to find more of these creatures spreed throughout the world!

I had soon made a name for myself in this large world and was the founder of these winged creatures that I dubbed "Rune Dragons" for their unique markings atop each rune's wing. My sister, who is also my best friend, joined me on my adventures and was an ever watchful presence as we soon turned my grandmother's cottage into the Explorers base. It is very large and spacious, with fine wood flooring and beautiful ornate walls, like something out of a fairy tale. Me and my older sister were the only one documenting the runes at the time till one fateful day the front door chimed delicately. It seems my findings had become known to some and a few individuals who were first interested soon requested to become my apprentices and work beside me as we searched for new runes. You see, in this world we live in it is not uncommon to find runes. Here in our world each person is paired with their rune partner for life and I, as well as others, have dedicated our lives to matching each owner with their own Rune Dragon. A special bond is made and I have heard so many enchanting stories of how people came across their runes. It is our job to make sure each is paired with a friend for life and I have also heard tales of Ancients, large dragons who have dominion over certain elements. I can not wait to tell you of this further but that will be saved for another day...

Journal Entry #1

My sister and I spent the days of our youth in our grandparents cozy cottage. Those where beautiful years, exploring and adventuring together. But we all must grow up and venture out on our own. Money was tight and as the eldest I worried about becoming a burden to our grandparents. So I left home to explore and find my place in the world. I took up residence near a small river town specializing in steam technology. I worked hard and saved up, becoming proficient and skilled in my trade. I was happy and comfortable, but quite bored. One morning I received air mail from my sister that happened to be attached to a fluffy looking bird dragon...thing. I stood in a stupor for a moment as I held the letter and read. She explained that this creature was called a Rune Dragon and asked for my help in researching them. My spirits instantly soaring I gathered my things and chartered a train back home. Upon arrival she explained everything to me. I felt like a child again, happy and excited for the future and the mysteries it held in store for us. I fashioned my own set of goggles, adding gizmos and extra features that might come in handy on our journey's. Our grandmother had given us each a journal when we where younger, which Benathorn and I both agreed to use for research. I was given my grandfathers scarf years ago which I wear around my waist every day.

I am now in charge of charting courses , researching locations and technology for traveling. I also provide protection and guidance for our Apprentice Explorers, fashioning each of them their own personal goggles and providing them with leather journals.

I'm really loose and enthusiastic at most times, and not at all strict...as long as you aren't doing something RIDICULOUSLY STUPID >:3 But I trust everyone in this fanclub is awesome~ I've always loved dragons, I published a 356 paged novel about a bunch of dragons ^^ and I discovered the runes one day, it was a super new thread, and I thought I'd LOVE to help out. I volunteered, and Bena accepted me! I was honored to get the spot and began to discover new runies each week <3

How I met Nadja?
Technically, she was a custom from Bena; she was designed to be related to the moon, with an innocent and hopeful look. She was perfect when I saw her; I've bene waiting in excitement for two hours, and there she was! <333 What a perfect runie, for me.

Soon after I'd discovered rune dragons, and before I volunteered to be an apprentice, Bena had opened slots to find perfect dragons for the first four people. I eagerly asked, and was second place. After a few hours of searching, Bena returned with a dragon perched on her shoulder, back to the adoption place; she looked a bit tired, but proud of her discovery.
"Here you go. I hope you like her, it was quite had persuading her to follow me," she chuckled. First look, and that dragon was...utterly perfect. PERFECT. It was a dragon of my dreams, honestly; and she seemed to like me too! She instantly flew over to me and sniffed and pecked my hair for a few seconds before curling up on my shoulder, as if saying 'THIS IS HOME.'
Soon after I named her Nadja after the Arab name for 'hope', and we became good companions and started to search for more runies to befriend Nadja and find great people to live with~

"Hey all. I'm maluruloki, but you can call me either Mal or Loki - they seem to be the popular choice. The username is Elvish, from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings; it means (loosely) "golden-red dragon". I'm not at all a moderator for the thread, but I'm happy to answer questions as best I can.

I came across the Rune Dragons while surfing the Created Pets forum and fell in love. As you can already tell from my username, I have a love affair with dragons, especially ones as friendly as the Runies. Benathorn was offering to create a custom Rune for anyone who asked politely and I did. Delyth, who is now the Ancient Sunset Rune, was my very first Rune Dragon. Summanus came next and well, now I have an entire family of wonderful Runes.

I was invited to the Rune Dragon researchers group after discovering the Dragonet Rune and happily accepted. It seems like I'm finding a new Rune at least once a month and it makes me smile to see when other people fall in love with the newly-found Runes. I hope you enjoy interacting with the fan club as much as I do!!!"

CONTEST

As we wait eagerly for the site to open, and our nerves fray, it seems that the Rune Dragon Community is in need of distraction. So, why not run a contest?

This contest is slightly different from the last one. It tests your creativity in any way you choose.

You are an explorer of Eldamore, wandering far and wide in search of adventure. With you trusty Rune (or perhaps even Runes) at your side, you fear nothing as you tread the path less travelled.

In your travels, you have come across one special place that stays in your mind. Perhaps it is a well-known venue. Perhaps it is hard to reach, or perhaps you are the first to ever lay eyes on it. Wherever it is, it is your job to document it for future generations.

Guidelines:

Your area must be only one biome (this means that it must have only one climate, set of geographical characteristics and ecosystem within it). In other words, you can create a desert, for example, but not the savannah around it.

Your area can be inhabited by existing plants, humans or Runes, but please refrain from including other animals, as they have not been defined.

You can use writing or artwork, as long as all work is your own. You may not buy or otherwise receive work from anyone else.

Please refrain from using ideas already used. Try to be creative.

You may add any information you deem relevant.

PLEASE ONLY USE EXISTING RUNES! And please ask owners for permission, just in case ^^ Please do not use customs.

Please keep your entry under 3000 words, for the sake of the judges ^^

We are looking for detail, uniqueness and a place fitting with the ethos of Eldamore.

This contest will end on the 5th of February. End date may be extended by popular request.

Please post your completed records on this thread, and include the phrase 'uncharted territory' somewhere in the post so that we can find it with more ease.

The Fan Club is under new management!

Marmoset did an absolutely brilliant job of running the fan club, but due to time constraints, she has graciously turned over her legacy to me, Verdana. These are big shoes to fill, but I hope that between myself and the new mini-mods, we will keep everything organised, exciting and fun.

To kick off the fanclub's revamp, we will be holding a banner competition! In the process of setting up the fanclub, I became aware that our banners, while beautiful, have been around for some time, and since I do so love to get people involved, I leave it up to the Rune Dragon community to create some more!

What is a banner, you ask?


That is a banner. This one was created by the marvellous Marmoset. Banners are a prettier, more exciting way to give headings and make threads so much more appealing.

The rules and guidelines are simple:

-You may only use images which you yourself have created. No original Rune adoptable art, no-one else's art (except if expressly permitted by the artist) and no stock images or copyrighted images may be used.
-Any original-concept Rune Dragon (one not based off of a TV show or game, etc) may be used.
-Rune Dragons do not have to be used at all!
-There must be space for some sort of writing (for headings, sub-headings, etc) which can be edited in the event of winning.
-Different banners for different headings can be created, or one generic banner with altered headings may be created. It's up to you.
-Please make sure that it is not too data-heavy. Remember, we'll be using your banner if you win!
-A note from Benathorn: Since Tiddly Winks is the Rune mascot, she would love to be included in some way!

And what is a competition without prizes?

The winner of the banner contest will have their banners used in the Rune thread, the fanclub thread and possibly in other areas (with permission). The creator will always be credited!

But that's not all. The winner will also have the choice of one of these three pets:
