‘’Long legs, swift movements, barely touching the ground it raced. Not running away from anything, just running by will for the simple feeling of the ground under its worn down hooves.
The deer stopped and looked around, heavy breath surrounding its steaming body as danger was always near, in the animal’s bones, all over its skin.
It’s the most silent sounds that disturb the quiet of the forest, enough to make the alarmed creature take a step back.
Ah, it’s only a sparrow.
Flying down closer, it chirped and landed on a little branch, right before the deer’s nose. Just close enough to feel its warm breath.
A little confused the deer tilted its petite head ‘’Hi’’ it hummed in its animal voice.
The sparrow made a silent and sweet sound as it returned the hello.
‘’I wish I could run like you’’ it said suddenly- ‘’I don’t want these wings on my back.’’
The deer looked down at its own shaky legs, thinking for a moment…
‘’Why?’’ it asked.
The tiny wings of the sparrow spread again as it easily bounced off the branch and playfully flew in circles around the deer’s head. ‘’Because, I want to feel the earth under my weak body, to feel the dampness of the soil as I can run for hours, the landscape changing every second right under my feet’’ it paused ‘’like you’’.
It suddenly landed on the ground and the deer had to bow its head to look at the sparrows determined, naïve face.
‘’From now on, I won’t fly. I don’t need these wings, I’ll just stay here on the ground.’’
Looking up at the sky, the little bird continued ‘’it’s all the same up there, I’ve had enough’’
The deer, shocked a little inside, stared into the winged creatures face then simply trotted away.
It’s just one little sparrow with an impossible wish, what could it possibly say to change its mind?
Chirping happily the sparrow slowly leaped through the forest floor, examining every patch of moss and soil.
At the edge of the woods it could see the city, eager to get there without flying it quickened its tiny step.
Lurking silently and watching, a cat licked its muzzle. ‘’Is it injured?’’ it asked itself. Not willing to miss the chance it jumped in front of the sparrow, blocking its path.
Staring death in the face the sparrow didn’t even think of flying away, it will stay true to its wish.
The cat smirked in its animal way and grabbed the unfortunate bird, its fangs piercing the innocent feathered body.
Leaping away happily, looking forward to its meal, the cat found a warm, earthy patch as it lay there.
But it’s just one little sparrow with an impossible wish.
And now the sparrow will never fly again.
And now the sparrow will never run again.’’
The moral of the story?
There's many, you can choose which one is dearest to your heart.
Should you follow your dreams even if it means sacrificing something?
Or should you forget all of those impossible wishes and be happy with you already have?
Phew.
I've had this idea for months now,
And it feels good to get it down on paper. Well.. you know what I mean :B
This is probably the only lineless drawing I'll do for a few years at least xD I hate it!
Used a few references, and the timer is actualy correct, I had to re-do that wing so many times! D:
I really hope you like the short sotry and the picture <3
