Orthus Serverus
"The Ultimate Guard Dog!"

Main Thread

Orthus Serverus

A loyal yet suborn breed, the Orthus Serverus was specifically bred to guard and this is a breed that will do so until the end, not even the best trainers have been able to break this dogs guarding instinct. This is a dog that will often bond closely to one or few people and will not accept anyone new in their lives easily and they often will only ever obey one person. Serverus often choose a person who is more likely to act as their boss rather than a companion as they require leadership.

As for appearance, Serverus weigh in at around 160 pounds and stand at approximately 90cm tall. The most noticeable thing of this breed is the long pointy muzzle, large pointed ears, short scruffy tail and the large protruding canine teeth.

The word 'Serverus' comes from a mix of two words, 'Servant' and 'Cerberus'. Both 'Orthus' and 'Cerberus' were both servants of Gods and were often given the role of guard dog which is very much like the Orthus Serverus which is a born guard dog.

Orthus Serverus are part of the canine family.

Breed Origin

The breed, Orthus Serverus, was created during the early 14th century by a demon mixing together multiple breeds of dogs and adding a little bit of magic. The species quickly became popular among demons as the breed preferred a master who would act as alpha dog and not as a friend. For thousands of years the dogs were used for guarding demon property however it wasn't until the 19th century when a human found an injured Orthus Serverus. The human tamed and helped the dog and she later bared puppies. The human started his own line of Orthus Serverus however the breed seemed to loose their magical essence, making special powers ultra rare.

Appearance

Weight and Height
Orthus Serverus stand at around 90cm tall and weigh in at approximately 160 pounds. The height and weight can vary rather significantly between dogs although most small dogs are worked as they don't tend to look so impressive when they are small.

Head, Ears and Muzzle
Orthus Serverus have a large slender head with a long, slim, pointy muzzle and small nose. Their head is Doberman like in appearance other than the longer fur from the sides of their head. This makes the dogs more slim lines as they are designed to be able to run very quickly.
They have large erect ears with a sharp pointed tips and narrowed eyes. This serves little purpose other than to make the dog look a lot more impressive and serious. Not many people would dare stare an aggressive creature in the eyes without fearing it.
Orthus Serverus are known for having that famous protruding canine. Not only does this make their teeth look sharper and make them more impressive, but these sharp canine teeth are also used for giving a very painful bite when they need to.

Fur, Body and Build

Orthus Serverus are overall short furred however not entirely. Around their cheeks, across their chest, over their elbows and around the top part of their trousers (top of the back of the legs) they have longer fur. Especially on the chest and the cheeks, this fur is designed to make the dog look more powerful, but to also help give some protection on those parts of the body.
Overal they have a long slender body with exposed ribs and a sloped back but that's not to say they are weak. The Orthus Serverus is a muscular breed with most of the muscles being found around their deep chest and legs. This is a breed bred for speed, agility and endurance which can often be an advantage over power a slow heavy dog.
The tail is short but with long fur is often a downside for speed however it has it's advantages when the Orthus Serverus is attacked as it means it doesn't have to worry about getting a long tail out of the way of the attacker if it's defending itself.

Paws and Claws
The paws are large with very sharp claws which, unlike a normal dog, they will use these claws to scratch in combat. They also have large rounded and thick pads to help protect their feet from anything they may stand on.

Behavior Characteristics

It's not difficult to get into the head of this breed, they are bred to guard and that's what they always want to do. They are a determined breed that will guard some-thing with it's life, even if there is little value in it, they need to do it.
Serverus are very much a one person canine however that's not to say that packs don't work. They will often guard their pack which generally consists of other Orthus Serverus and humans however they will only ever have one master. This one master will be the one person that shows them no mercy. Being originally bred by demons, Orthus Serverus hate cute and cuddly, they need to work and they need orders. A master who treats an Orthus Serverus as a companion and a friend is not a worthy master, they are likely to run away to seek a master to tell them what to do.

They can stubborn and even some of the best masters struggle to control their Serverus at times when their insticts becomes stronger.

Although bred to be guardians, Orthus Serverus are not a fighting breed. They will become aggressive and defend if they are given orders to however they will not go overboard when it comes to guarding. They will only go to the point of keeping the attacker away, they will rarely go on the attack.
