I swam until I felt the sand beneath my feet. I flexed my toes as I cherished the first moments of my return to the world of the surface. I was scared, but I had to continue. I walked upon the underwater sand and then I saw the shine of the sunlight upon the surface of the water.
"Almost there... I am almost there."
I would tell myself. I kept walking until excitement took over me. I stretched my wings and broke the surface of the water as I rose.
