Head-on Paw Tutorial

Postby Blockbeap » Tue Nov 22, 2011 4:33 pm

Some artists struggle with making paws more realistic than just a "Cartoon" style paw (bottom) and others are unsure about more than three toes on their paws. Here I'll show you how to draw realistic paws without the hassle.

Like I said before, these styles aren't mine, they're just my rendition.

Steps:

Paws 1
1. Draw the toes. Just the simple cartoon style toes to begin with is fine.
2. Add the details such as claws and pads. Now we take a size 3 eraser tool and erase the center of the top part of the toes.
3. Now add the toe length by adding three straight lines and add the legs.

Paws 2
On this paw I used a particular stance I found in one of my personal wolf references. I chose to use it on this tutorial.
1. Add the toes and don't forget the small indent around on side.
2. Add the details, claws and pads.
3. Now add the leg and toe length.

Paws 3
1. Add the cartoon toes again.
2. Add the pads but not the claws unless the cat is showing aggression and the claws are out. Don't forget to erase the center of the top of the paw.
3. Now add the toe length and the legs. Done with that paw! ^^

Paws 4
1. Add the toes a lot like Cartoon paws but don't forget to add the indent on one of the sides.
2. Add the pads and don't forget that the claws won't show unless the cat is showing aggression.
3. Now add paw length and the legs. Don't forget to erase the top center area of the toes.

Paws 5
1. Add toe Cartoon style toes.
2. Add the last two outer toes around the edge of the two center toes.
3. Add the legs and you're done!

I hope this helped everyone! I also have a tutorial that helps all of those side view paws. You can find it here.
Enjoy!
