Faeleons are a newly discovered species inhabiting the remote taiga landscape of northern Canada. They are a species very similar to the lions of Africa, but suited to life in the snow and ice. Faeleons are intelligent and generally peaceful, but known to be powerful and vicious fighters when threatened.

Faeleons have magnificent coats of thick fur, with their tails starting in fur but turning into long, luxurious hair. Their coats can be any colors and patterns imaginable, as they are the largest predators in the taiga and not concerned about camouflage. The base of their coats is never a bright neon color, but they can have neon accents and patterns. Their paws are also covered in thick fur, insulating them from the cold. Males sport bushy manes, and they can have tails of varying length, with long being the most common.
Faeleons have similar biology to lions. Cubs are generally born in pairs and take 16 years to fully mature. Faeleons live for around 60 to 80 years and take care of their young carefully until they are grown. Faeleons hunt elk mainly and supplement their diet with roots, tubers, berries, and other edibles in the tundra.
Faeleons have several physical mutations that occur randomly in their population and have a small chance of being passed on through their genes.
The most common mutations are:
• Shorter or longer than average tails and manes
• Albinism
• Heterochromia
• Presence of stripes or spots on coat
• Long fangs or tusks
Rarer mutations include:
• Bioluminescent markings and glowing eyes
• Presence of horns
• Growth of feathers in mane

Faeleons live in prides like their lion cousins, with some notable differences. Prides consist of many male and female mating pairs, and are ruled by one unmated male or female. Prides eat, hunt, and sleep together in a common living space, usually a large cave or hollow that provides protection from the wind and snow.
The alpha is typically the strongest male or female in the pride. Sometimes, great leaders are found in the most cunning or wisest elder. These alphas usually go unchallenged until they are unfit to rule, since they are typically the mothers or fathers of many tribe members and are looked up to with respect. Faeleons know the value of a good fighter in a leader, but a tribe will overthrow a brutish and cruel alpha easily.
Faeleons generally mate for life, but like humans, can go through short and long term relationships. Generally 'leons only have cubs with their chosen life mate, but they do not get married. All family planning is done informally and is between the two Faeleons only. Same-gender couples are rare, but not discriminated against, but they are unable to produce cubs unless finding a willing surrogate parent.
