Use the first tool in your toolbox, the rectangle [if you're unsure, go to your toolbox and hover over things until you find one called "marquee", the rectangle], and use it to make a rectangle around your object. Make sure you are in the correct layer, your object layer.
Now click the tool in your toolbox called "move tool". It's the second tool and looks like a plus sign, only with arrows. You can drag the part of the layer you selected.
The layer will move. Move it anywhere you'd like.
You can also copy paste object this way. While selected with the rectangle/marquee, go to edit > copy, then edit > paste. Make sure you are on the object layer. Once you paste the selected object, a new layer will pop up. Simply move your new duplicated object using the above method.
If you are still unsure, please tell me, and I will make a little image tutorial. I'm not too good at explaining these things. ^^'
