Day three came with it's brilliant wind of excitement. Cross country was one of Rhett's favourite competitions yet her uneasiness never ceased to be. She loved Tilly, but after yesterday's pole hitting during jumping, she was starting to doubt her mare's abilities. "We'll do great," she said more to herself then her horse, yet somewheres inside she really did believe they'd do great.
At the starting point, Tilly took off as if determined to win already, but Rhett held her back, she wanted a fairly consistent speed and not a speed demon at the beginning and a snail at the end. The first jump came up and Tilly cleared it easily, closely followed by another jump. A thrill of excitement filled Rhett when the course landed on the beach. The wind hit them, salty and fresh while the gulls glided in it's drifts, calling out as more horses stepped onto the smooth sand.
And they were free.
