Lodestar is one of a race of dragon- kind who can shift between these two forms, evolved for the ability to interact with both humanoid and animal life. They are the peacekeepers of all the kingdoms because of this skill, and occupy high positions in the councils.
Lodestar's 'scales' are actually markings, as his race usually has a layer of short, velvety fur instead. Not all dragons have them, and there is a lot of superstition surrounding them, most of which Lodestar dismisses as nonsense.
Don't feed him peanuts. He's allergic.
