Almost Easy [Human | Fantasy] Accepting

I invite you to a world where there is no such thing as time,
And every creature lends themselves to change your state of mind.

They call us paranoid. Paranoid is such a degrading word. It is one thing to believe everything is out to get you. It's a whole different deal when everything actually is, my dear.

And the girl that chased the rabbit drank the wine and took the pill,
Has locked herself in limbo to see how it truly feels.

"Mentally unstable." Hideous words to describe someone different in such a small way. So what if we've punched a few mirrors and injured a few "normies" in our fits. You would too if you were one of us.

Sometimes the curiosity can kill the soul but leave the pain,
And every ounce of innocence is left inside her brain.

Us and they. We are "us" and everyone else is "they." Why must there be sides? Because they say so, of course. They are normal, we are not: that's why we are stuck in this place. But who's to decide what is "normal?"

You see there's no real ending,
    It's only the beginning!

Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it. It's always waiting for us.

Mother said it all. You'll learn your lesson,
But first you'll fall. I'm not insane.

Insanity. Something akin to pornography - unacceptable to talk about, but you know it's there. Everyone does, but no one says a word. Forced into straight jackets and thrown into rubber rooms, forgotten by everyone "normal". Forgotten by "them."

"They" say the eyes are a mirror to the soul. But your shadow reflects who you really are. You pay no attention: but we do. We see the darkness you ignore. The anger, the hatred. It all shows in that insignificant little follower you pay no mind to.

A glance to someone's shadow is all we need to know who "they" are; it's almost easy. Supposedly "normal", but we are not. Why? Because they can't see "it." "It" is the root to all evil, it makes people rob banks and start wars and put "us" in places like this one.

"They" are not our concern, "it" is. The Shadowless, or "it.". "It" influences all of "them", whether "they" know it or not. "They" are puppets in a cruel sham formulated by "it." But we refuse to be a part of the plan. We know about "it," and "it" knows.

That is why "it" put "us" here. To keep "us" out of "it's" business.

---

The menacing wrought iron gate looms a towering fifteen feet, a fence of the same black substance runs around the perimeter. A once impregnable fortress to keep everyone out has been turned into a prison to keep everyone in. A bright newly painted sign reads Comforting Pines. The well manicured lawn of Raleigh Saint Augustine grass has been freshly sodded and mowed. The air has the sharp scent of fertilzer, and the "high functioning" residents stand around in the shade of the old oak trees that dot the property.

But all we can do is watch. Ward G is located on the third floor of the old house, whose interior has been outfitted to run as a secure place for the "threats to society." (Or maybe just the threats to "it"?) Rooms are numbered from 1 to nearly 30, as though they were expecting many people in the ward. Only about half of them are occupied. The room is 10' x 12' and has nothing but a rock hard hospital bed and a small, cramped bathroom accessed by an equally tiny space in the wall, for "they" don't trust "us" enough to even give us doors. The walls and ceilings are plain and white, and the closest thing to color in the rooms are the alternating white and black tiles, which some residents thoroughly enjoy staring at.

A nurse's desk flanks either end of the hall, to prevent escapes, presumably. The daily routine includes three meals (in which they are given plastic spoons, no knives or forks, come to think of it, nearly everything is plastic) and two one-on-one psychiatric sessons, alongside group therapy, which is basically everyone sitting a room conspiring amongst themselves when the doctor leaves. None of the providers, as they are called, are hosts of "it," they are just "they": ignorant pawns in a masterful game. No one here has met the head honcho director of the place - whose name is Doctor Christopher Martinez - it is assumed he is a manifestation "it." Since no one has seen the Martinez guy, it is unknown whether is a Shadowless or not, which makes him a potential danger to all of "us" here.

In this nonsensical world, your facts must be straight. Let's cover terminology, first.

"It" -- The root of all evil, as it is. History tells us evil has been around for a quite long while, how much "it" has a hold on a person determines their level of evil-ness, some only talk behind backs, others rob convenience stores, and "it" makes some kill. There a large grey area in how "it" affects people, and a scale has yet to be devised, as anyone with the intelligence and time to do so is unaware of "it." To determine whether a person is a host of "it" one must look at their shadow. "It" changes the shadow in horrible and ghastly creature, which varies between hosts but is always terrifying. It (not that "it") is unknown whether "normies" see this difference.

The Shadowless -- A true blue carrier of "it." As their title suggests, these poor souls have no shadow whatsoever: rumors say it was consumed by "it" in a bad attempt to camoflague "it's" chosen ones. A truly terrifying opponent to face, and their awesome presence invokes some sort of "fight-or-flight" reaction in "us." And most choose "flight," we like to call those who battle a Shadowless "dead." Since every person stupid enough to confront a Shadowless is deceased, or just plain insane (seriously insane), no one knows what kind of power or prowess they possess. Most wish to never find out.

"They" -- Pawns under the influence of "it." Unawares of the grip "it" has on their lives - even of "it" itself - "they" believe themselves to be superior to "us," even though it is truly the other way. Also known as "normies," a bitter nickname given by residents of Ward G.

"Us -- Those aware of "it." Dubbed "mentally unstable" by society and psychologists for the things they see. There is a large concentration of "us" in Ward G, as most are increasingly violent in their attempts to escape from Comforting Pines. Any of "us" can take one look at a person's shadow and find out whether they are "it" or "they."

    ---

Now that you know more about your enemies and allies, let's lay down some ground rules.

    1. This is semi-literate and above. I expect at least on paragraph per post that contributes to the plot. I cannot stress this enough. Just saying "Mary watched" and putting five sentences about her thoughts is not adding anything to this role play. Don't make me get out the N00b Away.

    2. There is a reason there is no "crush" section on the form: no romances. If I see any Iloveyous or gazing lovingly into each others eyes, I will skin you alive. Do we have an understanding? Good.

    3. Did someone's character hurt your feelings? Was I "too harsh" in correcting you? Then go put on your big kid panties and get over it. I will not tolerate some whiny little ass ruining the fun for everyone.

    4. A limit of one character per player is currently in effect; I want to give anyone who wishes to join a chance to jump in. This may be raised depending on the interest this role play receives.

    5. No godmodding, powerplaying, et cetera. You know the drill. Please be sure to drop by the forum rules if you have not already.

    6. I do not expect to have to add more rules. Do not make me add more.

If you have any questions, consult me via private message.

    Name:
    Jenna Leigh Rawlings
    Age:
    24
    Gender:
    Female
    Appearance:
    [x]
Standing 5'9'', Jenna has brown eyes and some quite weird blonde hair. She spends much time teasing it to make it stand like it does. She wears the Comforting Pines robe that all are subject to wearing. Beneath that she has plain jeans and a light grey T-shirt that reads, to a rather comic effect, I was abducted by aliens and all I got was this stupid T-shirt. Alongside this is a pair of charcoal colored low-top Converse. While not the strongest person in the lot, she can hold her own in a fight, being a Krav Maga level P3, with an emphasis in axe kicks and a variety of overhand punches.
    Personality:
Jenna is a strange sort, while most go out of their way to avoid conflict, she seems to enjoy it. An assertive type, she is not afraid to tell anyone exactly what she thinks of them; which is usually a blunt insult. She is oddly sarcastic and can easily make somebody cry. She has an acidic comment for every occasion and a sardonic joke for every occupation or personality. She covers all of her emotions with her wisecracks and has a knack for frustrating the providers of Comforting Pines. She has a dark sense of humor and loves to make the pshycologists at Comforting Pines cringe by relating stories of her "alien abductions." Which, when disected and studied, sound oddly like Star Wars Episode I.
    Reason for Commitment:
Aliens.. Oh, and she thinks shadows attack her.
    (One of "us.")
    History:
Born and raised in The Middle of Nowhere, Alabama, Jenna tries valiantly to mask her childhood accent with creepily proper grammar and annunciation. Her father was a Marine Corps drill Sergeant, so she quickly became immune to being screamed at and taking insults. Which was quite helpful when her mother decided she didn't need her Zoloft anymore. She was a rather violent child, enjoying FPS games like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. She is able to use most any gun thanks to her family's military background and, as was aforementioned, is a Krav Maga level P3.
    Other:
    N/A

Name:
Kamala Lain
Age:
21
Gender:
Female
Appearance:
Short redish brown hair, cut just above her should all around except for one piece that hangs down, about three fingers thick going all the way down to just below her armpit. Straight across bangs with a slight gap above her left eye. 5" 1' weight about 110 pounds. Large brown eyes and small pink lips. Slightly upturned little nose.
Personality:
She is very quite, hardly speaking at all, even when spoken too. If she is really tired, she is snappy and bitter. Otherwise, she is very kind. She is not the strongest, and only runs from a fight if she thinks she will lose. She enjoys knives and scissors, but not guns.
Reason for Commitment:
She is Insane
History:
She was born in Tampa. Florida to a very wealthy Family. From age 5 to 18, she spent her days at a Private school that included Fencing lessons, gymnastic, singing, piano, violin, drama, ect. She took part in every activity for at least one year, but kept fencing as her main course throughout the entire time. One day as she was walking home, and when she opened the door, she saw her parents covered in blood, the lights knocked out. The police came and cleaned everything up, Kamala was left to live in the house on her own. She didn't eat anything and just sat in a corner. Her friends walked in while she was cutting her hair with scissors, and she never finished, no will she ever. They sent her to therapist, but the only progress was to get her to eat. She was sent her to see what they could do.
Other:
She really likes teddy bears.

[ Oh, great, a paradox. Not accepted. "very weak, but doesn't run from a fight.." Honey, she'd get her ass beat on a regular basis. Try to get your stereotypes straight. And if she was under eighteen when her parents were murdered, guess what - she'd get sent to a foster home. Do some research. ]
