In a Victorian world where werewolves and vampires are accepted- and often upper class- members of society, technology has advanced far more than it should have. Scientists have made huge advances in the research of steam power, due to huge support and sponsorship from the vampire community. Vampires and werewolves have even been integrated into the English government through the BUR (Bureau of Unnatural Registry), a division of the civil service.

However, though most of society has learned to accept, or at least tolerate, the supernatural presence that has been public for almost 300 years, there are still those that seek to destroy it: the Templars, who believe that the supernatural are unholy creatures, and, far worse, the Hypocras Club. A group of scientists, who don't just want to destory the power of Supernaturals, but harness it for themselves.

And then, there are the others. Not werewolf, not vampire but certainly not human. The BUR call them preternaturals. Everyone else calls them soulless. And that is, technically, what they are. Preternaturals are people born without a soul, not emotionless but without morals, no inherent sense of what's right or wrong. Preternaturals are also the greatest weapon the Hypocras Club could ever hope to get. If they come into contact with a supernatural, they instantly cause it to become, temporarily, human, until contact is lost again.

Thankfully the population of preternaturals in the world is minute and so far, they have managed to evade those few who would use their... individual powers for their own gain. But things are starting to go wrong. Supernaturals from across the globe are disappearing without a trace and whether you're supernatural, preternatural or just plain human, things are about to change.

As you may have guessed from the introduction, this RP is based in a semi-fantastical world, almost completely identical to the Victorian period apart from the fact that vampires and werewolves exist, and are known about by the public. Specifically, this Rp is set in London.

First, a little information on the species allowed in this RP.

Preternaturals

Preternaturals, or the soulless, are, as I mentioned in the introduction, people born completely without a soul. They could be anyone but female preternaturals are a little rarer than males. They have no real morals but can still feel emotion. They can also completely 'disarm' a supernatural, so to speak. If a preternatural makes skin contact with a vampire of werewolf, said vampire or werewolf is rendered completely human until contact with the preternatural is lost. Preternaturals are incredibly rare. I'm only allowing 5 soulless characters in this RP.


Vampires

Vampires are how they're normally portrayed (undead, only drink blood, can't go out in the sunlight ect.), but almost all vampires live in hives. Hives are large groups of vampires inhabiting a particular area, controlled by a queen. Queens are always female and are the only vampires that are allowed to turn humans. Queens very rarely turn other females (to reduce the chance of competition). Some vampires choose to leave their hive and live on their own, or were turned without the permission of a Queen (and therefore don't belong to a hive in the first place) but only the strongest loners survive. Most female vampires start out as loners. Vampires are incredibly territorial and get uneasy if they leave their chosen area, or if an unknown vampire enters it.

Werewolves

Werewolves are very similar to vampires in some ways, very different in others. Werewolves live in groups in designated territories, like vampires, but the packs are controlled by two leaders rather than one. Alphas are in charge of the pack. They control it, lead it and protect it. Betas, the next rank down, are more the brains of the operation. They are followed by deltas then omegas and so on, all the way down the ranks. Loners amongst werewolves are much rarer as they are generally more sociable creatures to begin with. Werewolves can go out in the sunlight but only for limited periods of time. The older the werewolf, the longer they can stay in the sun without injury. They need to reach a few centuries, at least, before they can stay out for a whole day. Werewolves can transform at any time, but they lose control of themselves during the full moon

Both vampires and werewolves have a central house, generally a whole estate, from where the entire group is organised. The house is also filled with drones. Drones are humans who serve Supernaturals until they are considered ready to be turned. Drones are there completely voluntarily, despite the quite low chance of surviving the transformation.

Personality: Demetri is incredibly wild and playful, despite his repressed upbringing. He doesn't fit in particularly well with the rest of the high-society crowd, especially the English. He makes a sport of shocking them a much as he can. He is incredibly intelligent but makes an effort to appear less so than he really is. He has a very logical mind, but that's partly due to his lack of a soul. Preternaturals are not known for their creativity. Although he doesn't take pleasure in it, he can be incredibly cruel when he wants to be and has a biting wit. He has a very strong Italian accent and still slips into his native language occasionally if he's angry or upset.

Appearance: Zachary is tall, around 6'5", and very strong, even for a werewolf. He has a heavy build but most of it is muscle. His face is surprisingly angular, with prominent cheekbones and a long straight nose. His hair is very dark brown, nearing black, and his eyes are a similar brown the gradually fades to amber as he approaches full moon. His hair is long enough to reach his neck and is slightly coarse and wavy. He isn't the most graceful of people but he's never clumsy either, though he does have a tendancy to smash whatever's closest when he's angry.

His werewolf form is, just as he is, very large and bulky. His fur is a few shades lighter than his hair, a mottled tawny colour instead of dark brown. It steadily fades down to black around his paws and belly. His fur is medium length and very thick, giving him an even bulkier look than he already had. His eyes are dark amber with a few flecks of green and brown.

Personality: Zachary isn't particularly smart, but that was never part of his job description. He is an incredibly good alpha, with a natural talent for leadership and enough skill at fighting that few dare to challenge him for his position. He isn't particularly diplomatic and tends to tell people the blunt truth, whether it's a good idea or not. He was never very good at expressing emotion and tends to come off as uncaring and aloof, but he has a sort of gruff kindness about him that most people don't notice.

Appearance: Jonas is around 5'6" and very slender. Despite his light build, he is very strong, even for a vampire. His skin is paler than a normal human's, but only just. He has a few freckles dotted over his cheeks but they barely show up. Jonas tends to have a pair of rounded glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, despite the fact that he hasn't needed them for over a century. His hair is a dark shade of auburn and falls past his shoulders. He tends to keep it tied out of his face in a ponytail. His eyes are a bright green that tends to gain an amber tint when he's hungry.
Personality: Jonas is very quiet and mild-mannered. He is incredibly intelligent, he was before he was made a vampire, and can be cold and calculating when he needs to. He isn't cruel, despite what people think of vampires, and only kills when he has to. Reading is what occupies most of his time and Jonas is almost never without a book. He has an incrdibly logical mind and doesn't really understand people, or other vampires for that matter.

Appearance: Stephen is quite short and slight. Even though he can fight, he's not really built for it. He has quite pale skin, dotted with freckles, matched by short-cropped, strawberry blonde hair. Even though his hair is cut short it still manages to be messy and seems to defy the law of gravity on occasion. His eyes are slightly deep set and are a very bright blue. He tends to look rather messy and unshaven, still handsome, just in an odd way. He has very sharp features, a straight nose and slightly pronounced cheekbones, often giving him the look of a rather grumpy bird of prey. His body is dotted with scars, quite a few on his hands. There are long, pale scars covering his back and another few on his wrists.

Personality: Stephen is sarcastic and snarky to the point of being hurtful at times. He is extremely intelligent and isn't afraid to inform people of that fact. He has an analytical and calculating mind, and tends to over-analyse everything. He has a very stubborn nature and, partly due to being a doctor, he is the worst patient in the world. He can be caring to a few select people but for the most part, seems slightly cold. He uses sarcasm as a form of defence when he's hurt. He can be insulting, though it's usually accidental since he's not particularly empathetic. To him, supernaturals are far worse than humans and he sees them as subjects to be studied and disected. Although he's generally a pacifist, he has no trouble defending himself if need be and is quite a competent fighter. He does have a bit of trouble with alcohol and has been addicted in the past.
