Sometimes we hide our feelings or our true beings behind a m a s k because we're afraid to show someone imporatant to us that we c a r e because we are afraid they do not feel the same way. Maybe we cover up our t r u e selves because we don't want to be criticized for what we truly are. And, when you really stop and think about it, life's one big m a s q u e r a d e.

And yet, we learn to hide behind our masks and go on living in this m a s q u e r a d e because it's all we know. Maybe, over time, we've learned not to e x p r e s s ourselves, or our feelings. Most people, in this time and place, do not know how to let their true feelings and beings s h i n e...all they know how to do is c o v e r them up. And, as life goes on, our m a s q u e r a d e continues, and we hide behind those lavish masks and let people see what they want to see, instead of letting them see what we really want them to see. We let other people write our own s t o r y, and label us according to how we cover up.

This is the s t o r y of a m a s q u e r a d e where people fall in love and we all let our guard down, we take of the mask, and let the inside s h i n e. But ask quickly as the mask comes off, it goes back on with every h e a r t b r e a k we expierence. And the CYCLE goes on and on and on...will it ever s t o p? When will the madness subside and when can we truly be ourselves...?

Our story starts at an innocent Halloween dance...apropriatly named Dredarian High's M a s q u e r a d e...

zoey can come off as a flirty, absentminded girl, but to be honest, she is one of the most focused and determind people you will ever meet. Zoey is a gymnast, aiming to reach the top of the food chain - the olympics. White most girls usually worry about boyfriends and social events, all Zoey worries about is being able to practice everyday for at lesat 4 to 5 hours. Gymnsatics is like her world. She's been going to her gym since she was 3 years old, and all her true friends are also bent on getting into the olympics as well. But, at school, zoey tries to take on a different personality. There are no other gymnasts that go to her school, so she didn't really have a place to fit in when she started high school. Her school friends would be described as, well, 'the ditzy cheerleaders'. And, to fit in, Zoey acts like them as well, a ditzy popular girl who's life after high school is basically going, well, nowhere. Zoey has a desperate fear of becoming an outcast, which is why she covers up her determind gymnast attitude with a flirty, happy mask that makes her seem almost empty headed. She never dates or goes to any parties or social events - bascially, she lies and says her parents are 'extremely strict', when really, she doesn't want a boyfriend because she thinks it will take up too much of her time, and she attends no social events because she's afraid it will take time away from the gym. Of course, she has crushes on people that would more then likely want to be with her, but her fear of not reaching the top keeps her away from any other distractions that can take that away from her. Her parents frown upon the fact that she has an addiction to the gym - they would rather her grow up and live like a normal teenager, not an olympic athlete. But, Zoey is an addict, and she couldn't give it up if she tried.

Hunter is the type of girl to clam up and shut everyone out, keep to herself rather then be around people she cares about. She's a loner, and would rather be percieved that way. But Hunter was not always the quiet, shy girl she is today. Hunter once lived in California, having a lot of friends and a boyfriend and everything. But, Hunter had a problem. She had developed an eating disorder at age 13, and stopped eating all together. No one ever knew why - she had no problems in her life that would cause her to do that. But, it happened in 7th grade. She would sit there and make excuses in the cafeteria to her friends that she wasn't hungry, had eaten a big breakfast, or was going out to eat that night. And no one seemed to notice her getting skinnier and skinnier...it was about mid November when she first fainted. And everyone had simply believed her when she said she had been feeling light headed. She refused the crackers the nurse tried to feed her - she said she felt naustious. Soon, she was weighing only 68 lbs, and she was getting sicker and sicker and fainting a lot more. The sight of food made her feel revolted, so she skipped lunch a lot and hid in the bathroom. All the while, she and her boyfriend were getting closer and closer, and she was trusting him with a lot more then she should. And she told him about her anorexia. He, disgusted, dumped her and told all his friends about her problem. Soon, it spread around that she had stopped eating, and people were either laughing at her or telling adults that she needed help. She was sent to a clinic and taken out of school until March, when she was back to normal weight and health. While she had been gone, a lot of people had spread rumors and said things about her, and when she got back, all her friends had turned on her. Afraid of Hunter turning to suicide, her father quit his job and they picked up everything and moved away, so Hunter could get a new start. Her past is the reason she hides from her future...

Duncan can be classified as a player sometimes, other times he's jsut a sweatheart with a harsh side at times. He plays wiht the girls, never rejecting a hug. It's nothing sexual though, just a way to show that he has your back and that he trusts you. For most of the time, he never hooks up girls that he was friends with. If he liked the freindship, he doens't want to ruin it with a relationship. Besides, then the girl would probably yell at him when he hugged other girls.
When he likes a girl, he'll act like a pig sometimes depending on the girl. But if the girl is all sweet and shy, he'll take it a different way. He's been with alot of types and doesn't have many favorites, but brunetts and red heads get him the most. And if she has a man, well Duncan doesn't really care. He'll still flirt with the girl even if he gets threaten. He often thinks with his empty head then wtih the brain he has locked up somewhere.
But when he's known the girl, he find that if you try to tap that, then it's like trying to make out with your sister, which is not cool. A hug though is alright for him. Hey, he'll probably make up some sad, lame story just to get 'awws' and hugs of sisterly love.

But when Duncan's in a bad mood, he wants nothing more then to be left alone and to think. It doens't help him if you try to figure out what's wrong. Often he'll say something, sound like he means it leaving him a mess to clean up when he feels better. This basicly mostly half the time when he's with people or in trouble.And often when he's pissed off, it's usally just the after math of rejection of a relationship, his friends, or even once in awhile; his grades.
Words will come out when he's mad. If you didn't knwo him, you'd think he was a salior with his mouth. He'll often say things to people who he loves and call them names, yell things, but somewher in his mind he doesn't mean it. In someway, he's like a drunk when he's pissed off.

Personality: Mystearica is a very staid and reserved person. She is highly independent and determined to the point where she seems cold and serious at the first glance. However, when a person gets to know her, they realize that she has a very compassionate and caring side. She is very clever and intelligent, yet everything that goes on in her mind is rarely ever shown or spoken. She is quiet and her emotions remain neutral and calm at all times, even in the toughest situations. Mystearica has a hard time trusting others due to her family background. Her mother committed suicide and took her younger brother with her as well. She now lives with her father who is rarely ever home, due to his occupation.
What she looks for in a guy is someone who will accept her for who she is, and will remain loyal to her. She wants a person who is funny, yet very thoughtful, sweet, and caring. She wants someone who will respect her and listen to her side of the story.
Flirting is not her thing, for she is too concerned about her grades at school. No matter how tough and strong she tries to be mentally and physically, she is very fragile and shatters easily when it comes to boys. She fears that no one would ever like her for who she is, therefore she shuts herself away from the whole world to the extent where she appears to not exist at school.

Personality: Allen is generally kind and caring. He can be brave and rebellious at times, and would freely fight for his loved ones. His mind is always crammed with thoughts, and it's easy for him to zone-out. He likes to imagine things freely, which makes him oddly creative at times.
He has times where he can get angry, but he blows off steam after a few minutes. He feels guilt easily and hates to be mean to people. It's strange, but it's almost like his brain has trouble understanding who he is. Allen could be perfectly happy one moment, then infruated the next.
Allen has always willingly pushed himself harder than others. He attemptes to try his hardest at everything. He can be one of those people who will keep your secret to death, but has trouble keeping it form falling out of his mouth. Allen is a secretive person. Even though he enjoys having friends, he often keeps to himself.
Allen isn't the kind of person to be too great with girlave s, but has had a few in the past. Most of the realtionships have been untrustworthy. One person actually dated him because she was dared to by one of her friends. He hates girls like that.
Allen was actually abused when he was a kid, changing his attitude dramactically. His absuive father left his mother at the age of 9, which was a huge relief for his mother. His personality hasn't changed. He acts as if he has the weight of the world on his shoulders.
